EU endorses Ukraine's incursion into Russia

Peter Stano
European Commission Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano
The European Union fully supports the actions of Ukraine's forces, including striking Russian territory, European Commission spokesman Peter Stano has said.

The statement came a day after Ukraine launched a major cross-border sortie into Russia's Kursk Region early on Tuesday. At least five civilians were killed in assault as of Wednesday evening, according to the Interim Governor of Kursk, Aleksey Smirnov. Another 31 people - including six children - were injured in the Ukrainian shelling of the town of Sudzha, Russia's Health Ministry said late on Wednesday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the Kursk attack yet another "large-scale provocation" by Kiev, accusing Ukrainian troops of deliberately targeting civilians.

Commenting on the raid, Stano said Ukraine has the right to defend itself, "including by striking the aggressor on its territory."

Comment: The EU clearly has no problem with Ukraine attacking civilians, which given how the EU supports Israel, is not surprising. The EU in like fashion excuses Israel's genocidal war and torture of Palestinians as justified under the umbrella of Israel's right to defend itself.

Comment: The Ukrainian PR move in the Kurst region is not going to change the outcome of the war, but will only make Russia want a bigger buffer zone so as to protect itself from NATO delinquents. Europe will only reap a poor harvest from the seeds of Russophobia and confrontation it has sown.

FBI raids home of ex-UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter - UPDATE: Scott addresses the press outside his home

ritter
Scott Ritter
Ex-UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter's home in upstate New York was raided by the FBI as part of a federal investigation, Wednesday, officials said.

An FBI spokeswoman confirmed to The Post that agents conducted a raid on the Delmar home as part of a federal investigation. She declined to comment further, citing the ongoing probe.

FBI agents and New York state police could be seen searching Ritter's home that afternoon, Albany TV station WNYT first reported.

Comment: UPDATE 8th August:

And a later statement:

---------------

It's fairly obvious why Ritter is a target. However, that the US police state is becoming ever more brazen is alarming:

Notably, over in the UK, the establishment seem to be using the anti-mass migration unrest to hasten their goals for harsher censorship and cracking down on dissent - and, to be fair, it makes sense, because the West-Israel have a lot that they would want to hide, and their propaganda is not as effective as it once was:

'Waiting is part of the punishment': Hezbollah leader tells rattled Israeli regime, 'response is imminent'

Hezbollah Faud Shukr Ismail Haniyeh Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
Hezbollah commander Faud Shukr in Beirut and Hamas political bureau leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
In his second speech following the assassination of Hezbollah commander Faud Shukr in Beirut and Hamas political bureau leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah warned the Israeli regime that the response is imminent.

"Yavaash, Yavaash (slowly, slowly)," said the Lebanese resistance leader in a speech on Tuesday as tens of thousands of people watched on a giant screen in the capital Beirut.

"Israel's week-long wait is part of the punishment and retaliation," Nasrallah asserted. "The state of waiting is part of the battle and leaves a great shadow on the occupation."

Comment: There's not much to argue with there, much of what was said is supported by the facts. And, indeed, Israel, and the West, seem to have been struggling with the wait:

Biden briefed that Iran attack timing and details still unclear, U.S. officials say

President Biden and Vice President Harris were told by their national security team on Monday that it is still unclear when Iran and Hezbollah are likely to launch an attack against Israel and what specifically the attack might entail, three U.S. officials told Axios.

Why it matters: Biden administration officials say they are working to prepare for countering the possible attacks and mobilizing diplomatic pressure on Iran and Hezbollah to try to minimize their retaliation for the assassinations by Israel of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Hezbollah's top military commander in Beirut.

Driving the news: Secretary of State Antony Blinken told his G7 counterpart on Sunday that Iran and Hezbollah could attack Israel as soon as the next 24-48 hours, Axios reported.
  • But in the meeting Biden and Harris had with the National Security Council in the White House Situation Room on Monday the assessment was more nuanced, U.S. officials said.
  • The officials said Biden and Harris were told U.S. intelligence expects a scenario involving two waves of attacks — one from Hezbollah and one from Iran and several of its other proxies.
But it was still unclear to U.S. intelligence who is going to attack first and what kind of attack they are are going to conduct, the officials said.
  • One U.S. official said intelligence indicates the response by Iran and Hezbollah is still a "work in progress" and both are undecided about what exactly they want to do.

Comment: Israel's actions are undeniable, unforgivable. It has begun a war. US has two options: Step aside or double down. Time's up. Israel wont wait.

What Donald Trump should beware of in the debate with Kamala Harris

Harris

The former president should be cautious about challenging the VP on her gender and race credentials.

Mark your calendar, ladies and gentlemen, Kamala Harris has done something extraordinary. She has become the only candidate in half a century to become the presidential nominee without winning a single primary vote. Biden's vice got enough delegate votes in the virtual roll call process to become the official Democratic nominee. Interesting how not winning votes has had an uncanny way of getting this severely unqualified woman one cackle closer to the Oval Office.

But the shock and awe does not stop there, so be advised to have a seat. The absolutely, positively 100% legitimate corporate media monstrosity with blood-soaked hand to its heart reports: Harris is now more popular than Joe Biden or Donald Trump have been at any point in the 2024 election cycle.

Yes, a Morning Consult poll of 11,538 registered voters between July 26 and 28 found 50 percent have a favorable opinion of the sitting vice president, while 46 percent have an unfavorable opinion. According to the pollster:
"Harris's 4-point net favorability is a higher rating than Biden or Trump have posted all cycle."
Is anyone really buying any of this, aside from those people who would rather see Donald Duck, for example, as commander-in-chief than Donald J. Trump?

Comment: Her plan: Memorize one speech then avoid all questions. Remember her stunning appearance in Asheville, North Carolina from the last election?

Russian pipeline gas supplies to EU jump 40%

Meanwhile, deliveries of American LNG to the bloc have reportedly dropped in recent weeks.

Russian gas supplies to the EU via the TurkStream pipeline soared by over 40% in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period in 2023, Vedomosti has reported, citing gas transmission data.

Russian fuel is in high demand due to heat waves in Europe and Asia, the publication noted.

In July, Russian state energy giant Gazprom delivered over 1.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas to the EU via TurkStream, which was 29% more than in the previous month, the newspaper wrote, citing data from European gas transmission group Entsog. Year-on-year the deliveries jumped by 9%, it stated.

TurkStream is a natural gas pipeline that runs from Russia to Türkiye via the Black Sea and then continues to the border with EU member Greece. The other route for Russian pipeline gas to reach the bloc is via the transit system in Ukraine.

Comment: Selling gas to EU (as Russian reserves are being illegally divvied out) is a smart move.

US probably in recession - ex-Fed insider

unhinged

The downturn could have started sometime around last October, a former Federal Reserve advisor has said.

The United States may already be in a "plain vanilla recession," a former advisor to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Danielle DiMartino Booth, told CNBC on Monday. The statement comes as world stock markets nosedive over fears the US economy is weakening.

A cyclical or plain vanilla recession is one of the two types of demand-driven recession. These typically follow periods of policy tightening that are aimed at staunching excess demand or inflation problems.

According to DiMartino Booth, CEO and chief strategist for Quill Intelligence, the recession started sometime around last October. She pointed to a weakening job market and increasing Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings. Additionally, she said declining housing prices and increasing apartment supply suggest this trend may continue.

The US economy suffered an unexpected setback in July as hiring fell sharply and the unemployment rate rose for the fourth straight month, with raised interest rates taking a toll on businesses and households.

German politician calls for non-aggression pact with Moscow

Thuringia state governor Bodo Ramelow believes it is time to "think of Europe as a whole," with Russia as part of it.

The governor of the German state of Thuringia, Bodo Ramelow, has proposed creating a new pan-European security "order" that would include Russia.

In an interview with the Funke Media Group published on Sunday, the left-wing politician suggested that all European nations join such an alliance and help reorganize the security architecture in the region.
"All participating states must conclude a non-aggression pact and form a defense community that focuses on resolving conflicts on the European continent. We must finally think of Europe as a whole, and Russia is part of that."
He noted that his suggestion should not be perceived as aimed at NATO, which considers Russia a threat, but as a step towards the reorganization of European defense.

Ramelow admitted the changes he proposes would be difficult to accomplish in the near term. Despite seemingly offering an olive branch to Moscow, he slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin as a "dictator" and the Russian government as "a repression apparatus," and called on the West "to support those who want change in Russia."

He also warned of "smoldering conflicts that Putin can ignite," such as territorial disputes in Moldova and Georgia.

Comment: Austrian politician also cautions not to burn bridges with Russia:
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg has warned against "ghosting" Russia when it comes to peace efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, insisting that all channels of communication should be used.

The diplomat's comments come after condemnation from EU officials over Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visit to Russia earlier this month as part of his Ukraine "peace mission."
"One cannot burn all bridges... Ghosting doesn't work in foreign policy. I'm a realist and I have to deal with the world as it is, and Russia is part of it."
Schallenberg added that there are "channels of communication" with Russia and insisted that they must be used.

Austria is an EU member but is not part of NATO. Like Hungary, Vienna announced last year that it would not send weapons to Ukraine, countering the trend among the EU. Schallenberg last week also ruled out sending Austrian military instructors to Ukraine.

In March, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer spoke against the idea of using the profits from Russian assets frozen in the EU to provide weapons for Kiev.

In his interview on Sunday, Schallenberg also claimed Russia was not showing willingness to engage in "serious dialogue," which he said makes it important to involve countries such as India, Brazil, and China in talks, "because they may have more influence on Moscow than others."

Russia has repeatedly stated that it is open to dialogue on Ukraine. It has pointed out, however, that any talk of negotiations is pointless unless Zelensky rescinds a law banning Kiev from negotiating with the current leadership in Moscow.
Russia has been steadfast in its terms but also its willingness to negotiate and end the crisis. Not good enough?

'There are no good Russians' - VP of major EU party

ukraine MP

A Ukrainian MP and vice president of the pan-European party ALDE has suggested that there are "no good Russians" after opposition activist Ilya Yashin encouraged Moscow and Kiev to negotiate a peace deal.

Yashin was released from prison last week as part of a major prisoner swap between Russia and the West and was sent to Germany. He had previously been sentenced by a Moscow court to eight and a half years in 2022 and designated as a 'foreign agent' for spreading false information about the Russian military.

In an interview on Sunday, Yashin argued that the Russia-Ukraine conflict had reached a dead end and that there is currently "no military solution for either side." He insisted that there is nothing more important now than for Moscow and Kiev to stop the fighting and bloodshed and sit down at the negotiating table to "consider the positions of both sides."

Trump campaign: Harris-Walz 'dangerously liberal' ticket is 'every American's nightmare'

Vice President Kamala Harris has selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to be her vice presidential running mate
The Trump campaign blasted Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, as a "dangerously liberal extremist," while warning that their vision for the country is "every Americans' nightmare."

Waltz was tapped as Harris' vice presidential pick Tuesday morning. The 60-year-old is a former congressman and is in his second term as the governor of Minnesota - a state that Democrats have reliably won in presidential elections for decades but that the Trump campaign has aimed at flipping this cycle.

Recently, Walz attacked former President Trump and his running mate JD Vance as "weird," a viral insult the Harris campaign has embraced.

The Trump campaign, though, blasted Walz for his liberal policies and views, which they say complement Harris perfectly.

Comment: With a track record like this, how does Minnesota keep electing this guy?

Apparently he's a liar too:
