Saudi Crown Prince not seen in public since alleged coup attempt

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has not been seen in public since heavy gunfire and explosions reported from outside the royal palace in the Saudi capital Riyadh late last month.

No new photo or video of bin Salman has been released by Saudi state media since that incident, which happened just after the young heir to the throne wrapped up a whirlwind global tour meant to advertise himself as the new power in the kingdom.

Bin Salman was not even seen on camera when new US Secretary of State Mike Popmeo paid his maiden visit to Riyadh in late April.

Although reports said the crown prince had hosted a working dinner with the top American diplomat, only images of Pompeo's meetings with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir were published.

Moving the US embassy to Jerusalem shows contempt for Palestinian human rights

ivanka embassy gaza jerusalem
Trump's move to the international city was an act of political state terror - contemptuous of Palestinian rights.

On Monday, US and Israeli officials, along with invited guests, celebrated the embassy's opening in temporary facilities - ignoring the mass slaughter of peaceful Gazan protesters throughout the day.

"What a glorious day for Israel," Netanyahu roared, adding: "We are in Jerusalem, and we are here to stay" - ignoring his culpability for bloody Monday in Gaza.

Flashback Best of the Web: Death of Technician Linked to Andrew Breitbart Autopsy Remains Unexplained

Michael Cormier

A right-wing media star drops dead... a coroner's technician dies weeks later

In the early afternoon of April 18, 2012, Michael Cormier, an autopsy technician at the Los Angeles coroner's office, drove himself to Kaiser Permanente Hospital complaining of heart and stomach pain and diarrhea. The doctors suspected a heart issue or an ulcer and recommended he follow up with his regular physician. Two days later, Cormier asked his wife to call 911. An ambulance took him Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where he died several hours later from massive organ failure.

While he was at Providence St. Joseph, an unidentified family member called and recommended that the hospital check Cormier for poison. A screen test found a significant amount of arsenic in Cormier's system, and the hospital contacted the Los Angeles Police Department. In the early stages of the investigation into Cormier's death, the police wouldn't rule out an accident, suicide, or something more nefarious, and the coroner deferred the cause of death pending further toxicology results.

In all, it was not a remarkable set of circumstances, but Cormier's death made national news when numerous right-wing blogs linked it to the death of Andrew Breitbart, the conservative media juggernaut and Tea Party hero who had died on March 1 at the age of 43.

Comment: That's March 1st, 2012, 6 weeks before Cormier's death. In fact, Cormier died on April 20, the same day as the release of Breibart's (official) autopsy.

Comment: A 'head-scratcher' indeed. Someone skilled like him would know far better chemical means of 'leaving this world'.

There have been no media updates about Cormier's case since the above Daily Beast report, so we presume that his death remains unsolved.

Breitbart's death, of course, was officially solved: congestive heart failure ('of natural causes'). And maybe there was no 'unofficial', second, private autopsy.

That doesn't mean, however, that Breitbart simply 'dropped dead'. If it was feasible to 'heart attack' someone - at-a-distance - in the 1970s, it's been perfected today.

'Conspiracy theory debunkers' held up Breitbart's threat at that time to publish videos of Obama hugging 'social justice terrorists' during his younger days as a possible motive for any would-be Deep State spooks to 'beam' Breitbart. But at least one of those videos was published after Breitbart's death, and it wasn't all that 'explosive'.

More interesting were Breitbart's prescient rants about the Podesta brothers, whose role as 'dark arts puppet masters' has since been exposed via the stream of leaks in the run-up to the 2016 US election.

Reality dose: Russia isn't in Syria to start a new war - it's there to end one

putin palace
Frequent misconceptions surround the Russian role in the Middle East, and particularly its role in Syria. Many Syrians claim to see Russia attacking Israel or delivering to the Syrian government all its advanced weapons, technology and modern jets so these can be used against Israel's continuous violation of its air space and invasion of its sovereignty. Actually, Syrians would like to see Russia bombing Israel or taking sides in the Iran (plus allies)-Israel conflict, and delivering the advanced anti-air missiles S-300 or even S-400 to Syria. Until today, all those with anti-Israeli feeling find Russia's role (in the Middle East in general and in Syria in particular) hard to understand. This goes for the nature of its relationship with Israel too, and even the US. We see accusations of "betrayal" launched against Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

The time has come to shed some helpful light on the Russian role in the Middle East and look at the recent history of its involvement in the Levant.

Russia in Syria:

Until July 2015, Russia was providing weapons and spare parts to the Syrian Army. Many ships landed in the Syrian Mediterranean, where Russia maintained a naval base from the 1970s. Iran contributed generously to the payment of these shipments and Russia offered weapons at very low cost (half free and the other half paid), aware of its ally's needs to face the Salafi Wahhabi Takferee in the Levant.

Macron: France will protect business with Iran despite US sanctions

Leaders of European states will maintain the nuclear deal with Iran and protect their corporations against potential US sanctions for doing business in the Islamic Republic, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.

"We've had a vibrant discussion on Iran. The 2015 nuclear agreement is a crucial element of peace and security in the region. We have opted to support it whatever the US decides to do," said the French president on arrival at the Sofia summit. "We have pledged to take necessary political steps for our companies to stay in Iran."

Last week, the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, signed between Tehran and the P5+1 powers (China, France, Russia, UK, US, plus Germany) three years ago. Washington has pledged to re-impose sanctions on the Islamic Republic. The US Treasury Department said it would give European businesses six months to wind up their investments in the country or risk US sanctions - forbidding them from signing new contracts.

Trump forgoes Israeli independence celebration to spend time with recovering First Lady

President Donald Trump chose to spend time with his recovering wife instead of appearing as a guest of honor at Israel's 70th anniversary of independence celebration in Washington, DC, on Monday night.

Israeli ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer told the event's crowd of hundreds at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium that Trump wanted to be at the event, but chose to attend to the first lady, who had undergone a planned medical procedure that day.

Vice President Mike Pence later identified the first lady's treatment as a "long-planned" medical procedure and the reason that Trump had asked Pence to stand in for him at the event.

Mrs. Trump was taken to Walter Reed military medical facility on Monday morning to undergo an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. "The procedure was successful and there were no complications," according to a statement from the first lady's office. She is expected to remain at the facility for the remainder of the week. "The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere," the statement concluded.

Leaked draft agreement indicates Italy may ditch Russian sanctions

Italy's anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) and Euroskeptic party Lega Nord pushed for the removal of anti-Russian sanctions in their draft coalition agreement, an M5S representative confirmed to RT.

A draft of a joint program of the two parties was leaked and published by Italian media on Thursday. The 40-page document reportedly calls for end to treating Russia as a threat and refers to it as a partner, calling for more openness towards it.

RT has received confirmation from M5S that Russia is indeed mentioned in the program. "We can confirm that in the draft of the agreement there is [a part about] the Russians, but it's not official," Diego Destro, press officer for MEPs at European Parliament Movimento 5 told RT.

Asked to clarify whether the removal of the sanctions was also part of the draft, Destro said "yes," but urged the need to wait for the final agreement.

Trump should thank Iran not Israel

Trump Ali Khamenei Iran
President Trump and Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran
Donald Trump has betrayed his base completely. His Iran policy is insane. Yesterday's shameful countenance of the massacre of lightly-armed Arabs was the breaking point. Viewed dispassionately, yesterday's confrontation was between those of the jailer and the jailed.

The result was predictable and horrific.

But, putting that aside for a moment, let's look at the current situation. Trump's reasons for leaving the JCPOA lie in direct opposition to his stated campaign goals. Calling the JCPOA the "worst deal in history" he has consistently tied the money part of the deal to Iran's 'terrorism.'

But, is this terrorism they are supporting or Trump's own stated goals of bringing us home from Afghanistan and Syria after destroying ISIS?

Trump's 'no-deal' with Iran opens door for coup led by US and Israel, or at the very least lead to destabilization - ex-Mossad offical

The US, Israel and Saudi Arabia - can change regime in Iran, and Trump's policy provides an opening for it, a former top Mossad official speculated, adding that if a coup fails, Iranians will still be fighting each other.

Haim Tomer, a former Mossad official said to lead Intelligence, Counter-Terrorism and International Divisions, explicitly talked about possible options for regime change in Tehran during an interview with the Jerusalem Post.

Claiming that the "Khomeini-ist Islamic state" wants to destroy Israel, Tomer argued: "We can deal with the threat itself: nuclear weapons, conventional Iranian missiles. We can defend against them." The former intelligence chief went further, saying Trump's policy on Iran "created a major opening... to carefully weigh pushing for regime change as a formal goal."
