An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck northern Peru on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake was recorded at a depth of 108.8 kilometers at 6:20 am local time. Its epicenter was registered 27 kilometers east-southeast of Peru's town of Picota and 227 kilometers west-northwest of the Peruvian city of Pucallpa, which has 310,000 inhabitants.

There were no initial reports of material damage or casualties following the earthquake.
