A four-year-old boy from a family of farm labourers was mauled to death by a lioness early this morning in the farm area on the border of Gir, Nani Monpari village, Visavadar taluka. The child had gone missing from the farm in the pre-dawn hours, and his bloodied body was later found by the forest department team.

Forest department swings into action

The boy's body bore deep wounds and clear marks of a lioness attack. Forest officials immediately launched an operation and called a special rescue team from Sasan to capture the animal. The attack has sparked fear across Visavadar, particularly among farmers and labourers who work or stay near the farms.

Rescue operation suspended after accident

During the attempt to tranquilize the lioness in a pigeon pea field, a dart accidentally struck a forest worker, leaving him seriously injured. The operation to capture the lioness has been temporarily suspended. The injured worker was rushed to Junagadh Civil Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. Forest officials are now reviewing the next steps to safely capture the lioness.

The boy's family, who work as farm labourers on the outskirts of Nani Monpari, noticed he was missing early in the morning. Despite searching the area, they could not locate him. Concerned, the farm owner alerted the forest department, fearing the child may have been attacked by a wild animal.
