A woman has been killed by her own dog which went ballistic at a man she invited round.

Police found the dog owner in her 60s dead at home and an air ambulance was dispatched to fly her injured guest to hospital in Robertfors, Sweden, on Sunday evening.

The deadly American Staffordshire bull terrier was detained at the property until it was agreed that it was in the interest of public safety to euthanise it.

According to Norrland University Hospital, the man in his 50s, who was first to be attacked by the dog, was moderately injured, Expressen reports.

The guest called the emergency services at 9.25pm on Sunday after his host's best attempts to calm her pet down ended in tragedy.

When the woman encouraged the beast outside away from her visitor, it fatally set upon her, preliminary investigation leader Sofia Karlsson says.

County veterinarian Anneli Grip Hansson made the decision for the authorities to destroy the killer dog on the same night.

Another dog was also found at the address but was determined to have had no part in the deadly attack and so has been taken into care by the Animal Protection Act.

As the deadly dog's owner succumbed to her injuries, police are not launching a criminal investigation into her death.

As her friend was left in desperate need of medical attention, a preliminary investigation into causing bodily harm is underway despite the only suspect being killed in the same incident.

The investigation is to investigate what has happened, says Sofia Karlsson.

Vet Anneli Grip Hansson said: "In our county, we have not made this type of decision this quickly during the time we have been in charge since 2018, before that it was the police.

"But it's about protecting people and property and it had bitten two people badly. It is extremely tragic that an incident like this can happen, she says."
