2 people shot dead by police in Paris amid protests against Macron win

Two people were killed in Paris amid election protests on Sunday evening after police fired at a vehicle, following a 'refusal to comply', AFP news agency reported. The vehicle reportedly tried to run the officers over at Pont Neuf, and one of them fired his weapon.

The driver and one passenger died; another sitting in the back seat was injured.

The driver reportedly stopped at the request of the police, but during the check, he suddenly took off and drove towards the officers. According to the media, one of the police officers shot with a rifle several times in self defense.

The incident occurred during protests in multiple French cities, including Paris, which followed the second round of the presidential election in France. A few hours earlier, supporters of President Emmanuel Macron held a rally in Paris on the Champ de Mars, where he delivered an address.

According to the Interior Ministry, Macron won 58.55% of the vote, and the National Rally party's Marine Le Pen scored 41.45%.

Comment: In this instance, shooting to kill doesn't appear to be standard procedure, and so one wonders just what other factors caused police to shoot at what appears to be all of the occupants of the vehicle, rather than, for example, at the tires in an attempt to first disable the vehicle?

The French government thinks their nuclear powerplants makes them immune to the inflation, shortages and blackouts that are coming.

codis You are quite correct. Unlike the docile Americans, who have been efficiently brutalized into submission, the French are prone to violent protest, such as the Yellow Vests movement of pre-COVID years. If violent resistance takes hold in Europe,. it will start in France, followed by Germany.

Lemuel Gulliver I can see the US deep state having taken steps to decouple itself from the Davos crowd and Europe, so I would refrain from making predictions about the US future.

But even the indoctrinated and obedient Germans (including the Austrians) will become violent if they starved enough, and have nothing to lose.

Like later generations of the populus tend to forget about the horrors of war, later generations of our unelected "elite" forgets about the breaking points of their underlings.

Gator codis Thank you both. My philosophical musings have led me to a speculation, which is this:

In the 1980's the USA (Zbigniew Brzezinski and Jimmy Carter) created, funded and armed Al Qaeda and the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan in order to bring down the Soviet Union, in which they were successful, and look what happened to the Western world thereafter. The chickens we had created came home to roost, big time - 9/11, 7/07, train bombings in Madrid, disco bombings in Paris, festival bombings in Manchester, airport bombings in Brussels, and on and on.

Now, they are creating, funding and sponsoring the Azov Battalion, Pravy Sektor, and other neo-Nazi militias in Ukraine, to bring down Russia. Wait, and watch, for what is going to happen - armed neo-Nazi fascist militias are going to spring up all over like weeds in Western countries, and attack their neo-Communist pro-Israel liberal governments and government institutions.

I can see the signs - look at Marine LePen's excellent showing last week in France. Look at the militias forming in Idaho / Montana / Utah / Wyoming / North Dakota. I have a friend in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and he says when BLM was burning down Portland and Minneapolis, all the good ol' boys were patrolling his town with their rifles and handguns on their hips, saying, in effect, just you try it in this town and you won't live to see the dawn.

Even now, from time to time he hears a 50-caliber machine gun firing somewhere up in the mountains: Bap-bap-bap-bap-bap-bap-bap-bap-bap. A distinctive sound. (He was in the military - he knows.) It won't take much of a breakdown in the system to spawn right-wing armed resistance to the present neo-Liberal "Woke" governments, here and in Europe, where the bleeding hearts have let in millions of Muslims too lazy to work and ready to rape, loot and burn down buildings.

No, this idiocy is going to create blowback which the morons, who are cynically sponsoring Nazis in Ukraine in order to destroy Russia, cannot imagine. But they will, soon enough.

I think this machinations helped to bring down the communist empire, but the root cause was corruption and internal contradictions and discontention.

The West (mainly the US/UK) saw themselves as the ultimate victor, the pinnacle of history. They got complacent, fat, and arrogant. Reason is, I think, the belief of our "elites" that they are smarter and better than everybody else, especially the global South, Asia, and Russia, and they are destined to rule the world from now until the end of days.

Growing up in the Eastern Bloc in the '70s and '80s, I damn well recognize this felling of moral decadence and "last days" that is so prevalent today in the West. And I believe our fate will be similar ...

codis Point well taken. The collapse of the Soviet Union was due to a perfect storm of causes, mainly, as you say, internal corruption and apathy. Putin has done an amazing job of turning that around. However in Ukraine, they were not lucky enough to get a Putin, so they continue in the same corrupt and dissolute state as prior to 1991.

The problem with elites, in whatever system, is that because of their wealth and power, which everybody wants a few crumbs of, everybody kisses their asses, bows and scrapes, and flatters them. They eventually come to believe the butt-kissing themselves, and think they are the most brilliant and worthy people o the planet. In reality, everyone despises the morons, but nobody dares tell them so. So their moral shallowness and overblown egos get reinforced, and the problem feeds on itself. Bill Gates and Jeff Zuckerberg are the perfect examples.

There is something to it, I guess.

With Yeltsin, Russia was on the same way as the Ukraine (which went all the way, it seems). It's industry and natural resources were sold out to foreign powers and oligarchs, to become a weak satellite state.Despite some murky post-communist episodes, both (Yeltsin and Putin) seemed to remember their national heritage, and set Putin on a way to regain national sovereignity. I would argue they subdued their oligarchs, and stripped them of any political influence - very much in contrast to the West.

The Ukraine is a very different matter. Just checking the map and history, this has always been an unstable and dependant buffer state, often disappearing for decades. The only national history they came up with inter-war period with the Holodomor and the subsequent alliance with the Third Reich, including Bandera and Lebed.

The Ukraine never was an ethnically and culturally coherent state, thus there is no equivalent movement to the one Putin represents.

And there is the story of the Khazar origins of the Ukrainian "elites", colloquially known as the "name stealers" in the past. Not going deeper into that here ...
