I had been reading up on Putin some while ago. Especially about the years between his KGB service in East Germany and his selection by the drunkard Jeltzin.
Some preparatory questions for such an endeavour:
Where was the Russian Mafia during the communist era ???
Where did all the communists go ???
And where did all the "public property" of the USSR go ???

Anyone reaching this level in politics (and staying there) is in their pockets. Else he would be dead. We have seen what happened to politicians and presidents that changed their opinions midway ...
