The family of Ulrich George Klopfer found the remains in his Will County home after his death on Sept. 3 — and reached out to their attorney, local station WNDU reported.
The attorney called the county coroner's office on Sept. 12.
Klopfer operated abortion clinics in South Bend, Fort Wayne and Gary, and there is no evidence he conducted any medical procedures at his home, officials said.
The state medical licensing board had suspended Klopfer's license indefinitely in 2015 on allegations he failed to provide qualified personnel to monitor patients during procedures and had performed abortions on two 13-year-old girls, the station reported in 2016.
"Well let me put it this way, the Attorney General's Office and the Right-to-Lifers are in bed together," he told the station at the time.
The coroner's office seized the remains and was conducting an investigation.

The law states that a woman has the legal right to kill the human being that is growing within her body, so, why not make that the legal language within the law.
This would serve a valuable purpose for all parties, for it would remove the deceptive argument of "is it or is it not, a human being", while at the same time continue to allow the woman to legally terminate the pregnancy.
The benefit to society would be that from this point forward, all children would learn that the definition and reality of an abortion is that the woman is committing murder, by killing the human being that is growing inside of her body, and the government is granting her permission to do so without any legal retribution or punishment.
This would allow the child to grow up and choose for herself if she wants to commit or condone murder.
