A pinata representing U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as a devil burns during the traditional Burning of the Devil festival, ahead of Christmas in Guatemala City, Guatemala December 7, 2016.
Trump's hardline stance on immigration during his presidential election campaign, including a promise to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, has drawn anger from Latin Americans in the United States and around the world.
"We are against this person in many respects, regarding deportations, the wall he wants to build. We do not agree," said participant Astrid Soto, just before setting fire to the Trump figures, which clutched fistfuls of fake cash, and a U.S. flag.
Participants believe the practice of torching the devil helps banish bad spirits from their homes and neighborhoods. The custom began in the 16th century, but has spread out from various towns since the 1990s to become popular nationwide.

that the national press just parrot the CNN Español line which is just the CNN US viewpoint in Spanish and with that monopoly on viewpoint, there is little real journalistic reporting on alternative analysis or even what the objective truth really may be regarding what the US is doing abroad or what is happening there internally.
But Chile is also currently experiencing a mass immigration situation, legal and illegal from Haiti, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela and if you read the reader comments after articles in the local media, there is a stirring Trump-like sentiment that something needs to be done and the authorities are dragging their feet or even embracing open borders despite the consequences.
With the ruling elite on both the left and right under fire from corruption scandals and the public openly fed up with the nepotism and fixed financial deals of government and elected officials, I expect Chile will have a Brexit/Trump moment in the next Chile presidential election.
