India and Pakistan relations have deteriorated sharply - accusations of proxy war over Kashmir region

In the aftermath of the attack on the Indian army base in Kashmir, Pakistan has been accused of conducting a proxy war.

Planned terrorist attack

Yesterday there was an armed attack on the base of the 12th Infantry Battalion of the Indian Army in the town of Uri. 17 soldiers were killed. In return fire, all four attackers were eliminated.

The representative of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), Vikash Chandra, also said that previously was in influx of about 200 militants from Pakistan , who are involved in the growth of violence in the region.

Indian authorities blamed the terrorist group "Jaish-e-Mohammad" for this attack, which operates from Pakistan. In January 2016, members of the organization conducted an attack on the Indian Air Force base at Pathankot. Deputy Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Nirmal Singh said that "It is a proxy war. A country, that is, Pakistan, is focusing on how to disrupt Jammu and Kashmir".

Context

The attack took place against the backdrop of ongoing protests in the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir, where the majority of the population are Muslims. Almost all of the events ended in clashes with police and security forces, and led to casualties on both sides.

Katehon previously informed readers that Kashmir is a disputed territory. Its division is not embodied in formal agreements. India controls the territory called the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the jurisdiction of Pakistan is Gilgit-Balsistan. In addition, there is a self-proclaimed unrecognized state of Azad Kashmir which is under Pakistan's control. A small area is a part of Chinese territory.

The border between India and Pakistan was marked by United Nations in 1949 as ceasefire line. For more than half a century since, in this territory, has been either conventional warfare between India and Pakistan or subversive activity. As a rule, the attacks occur on Indian territory, and are considered as organized by local Islamists or groups from Pakistan.

Recently, changes in ideology among militant groups in the region have been observed . The risk of links with international terrorist groups such as "Al-Qaeda" and "Islamic State" have significantly increased .

The situation in Indian-administered Kashmir has deteriorated dramatically since July 8th, 2016, when one of the leaders of the group "Hizb-ul Mujahiddin", Muzaffar Burhan Wani, was killed. Riots then ensued and about 80 were killed and more than 10 thousand people were injured.

Mutual provocations

Pakistan has created a special committee on Kashmir and urged the Indian side to solve the problem through diplomatic channels. India, in turn, called such actions an interference in the internal affairs of the country, and actively support the separatists in Baluchistan, Pakistan.

Comment: Given that both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers, this is a worrying development.

Lieutenant General Singh said that Sunday's attack bore the hallmarks of Pakistan-based armed group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Evidence gathered at the scene indicated the attackers were foreign and their equipment bore Pakistani markings, he told Reuters news agency.

In an even stronger response, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted: "Pakistan is a terrorist state and should be identified and isolated as such."

Pakistan has hit back after India accused it of masterminding a deadly militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said on September 19 that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had written letters to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council regarding "grave human rights violations" being perpetrated by Indian security forces in the Himalayan region.

You can thank the British monarchy for this trouble. Prior to 1949, India was considered a colony and a productive one at that for the British. They had originally set about to control the region because of the tea, which gave them a product to sell into China during the 'opium wars' but India produced wonderful minerals, cotton, gemstones, soldiers and housekeepers for the British.

Once the British realized that they had milked the place for all it was worth, they 'granted' India its independence, which was very big of them, but in doing so they ripped the dressings off all the wounds they had inflicted within Indian culture. Suddenly the British designated borders inside India, which kept Indians well controlled, were no longer enforced and all hell broke loose as people tried to sort themselves out into religious and ethnic groups. As a result of that we have Pakistan and Bangladesh which are populated by Indian Muslims who hate the Hindu just as much as the Hindu hate the Muslim.

It will not take much for the area to ignite in violence and neither country want to be seen as the weaker, so nobody is going to back down. In reality the swaggering dick competition between their leaders should come to Canada to be embarrassed [Link]

Your history is a bit simplistic - only part of the story.

There are 200 million Muslims in India, and only 160 million in Pakistan. The Hindus and Muslims in India live together fairly amicably, except for the periodic furor over the Hindu destruction of that mosque (I forget its name) which actually was built in the 17th Century by the fanatical Muslim emperor Aurangzeb, over the ruins of a Hindu temple he had leveled on the same site. All the hatreds between Muslims and Hindus can be laid at Aurangzeb's door. Prior to him there was peace and amity between the religions - the emperor Akbar the Great and all his successors even had Hindu wives from the princely Hindu states.

As for the Partition in 1947-1948, that was because Mohammed Ali Jinnah was determined to be the Prime Minister of soon-to-be independent India. He was told by his colleagues in the independence movement Congress Party that the Hindus of India would never accept a Muslim Prime Minister. So he demanded a partition of India into Muslim and Hindu countries, and instigated immense religious hatreds and massacres. Some 1-2 million people died in the riots.

After all that, Jinnah died only 6 months after Partition and Independence. It cost over a million dead so he could enjoy political power for 6 months. Moreover, he was a lousy Muslim - he drank alcohol, ate pork, and screwed any white woman who would lay in his bed. And several wars have been fought between India and Pakistan ever since - most of them instigated by Pakistan, which has lost every one of them.

India has no wish to take an inch of Pakistani territory - in every war between them India has withdrawn from all the lands it has conquered within Pakistan. The last thing they want is millions of disgruntled Muslims living on Indian-administered territory.

If there is any lesson to be learned from this ongoing tragedy, it is that ordinary people should refuse to be instigated into wars and bloodshed by ambitious and greedy politicians. If 200 million Muslims can live happily inside India, there is no reason the 160 million Muslims in Pakistan could not have done the same.... Except for the psychopathy and ponerology of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, responsible for many millions of dead people since 1947.

Hi, thanks Lemuel Gulliver. Yes, my history was simplified but I'll not lessen any blame I placed on the British crown for what has happened there. If not for the initial colonization and subsequent release, there would not be an opportunity for a Mohammed Ali Jinnah to wreak havoc.

Blaming Jinnah is a lazy assumption

The partition of the Indian sub-continent was done by the will of the people of the land, but the decided boarders between the two would be nations were a time bomb waiting to happen. To blame Jinnah, who was at the last stages of fatal illness at the time of independence could have never wish for power ( which he hid so that his counter parts could not take advantage by delaying the process ). The partition was done because muslims felt that their voice would not be hear in the corridors of power. It's simply that, nothing more. It's a shame that some people chose to assassinate the character of Jinnah. There are plenty of accusations thrown at Gandhi too, such as being gay or sleeping with children in order to see if he's can bear the temptation. It's quite sick really. Should I believe such things? The partition of India was a result of poor leadership from both the Hindu and muslims communities. The role that the British played by taking advantage of the situation is unforgivable.
