Erdogan is out to win himself 'Big Kid on the Block' status by playing chicken with the Bear.
He's as batty as Kim Jong Il. He's more than likely to get himself and Turkey mauled, at the least, and at the worst, drag many into a major War.
Reminds me of the incident at the SF Zoo, where two Bengal Tigers were kept. The big cats were close to adulthood, and full of it (piss & vinegar). A group of hoodlums went teasing them one night (I think they broke in), trusting to the 20 foot wall and gap to keep the tigers from getting out. They were tossing things at them, when to their astonishment (and grief) the tigers leap out and over and proceeded to maul the brats who cheesed them off.
That's Erdogan, trusting in the US and NATO to protect him. Bad idea.
