The Mexican Press Club has condemned the abduction of Rossiya Segodnya photo reporter Andrei Stenin in Ukraine and expressed hope for his speedy release.

"We condemn the abduction of a true media representative, opposing violations of his rights starting from his disappearance and feeble efforts to find his exact location," a statement obtained by RIA Novosti read.

"We express our support to our colleague Andrei Stenin, his family and urge his speedy release," the press club stressed.

The Mexican Press Club considered being Mexico's most influential organization of journalists was set up in 1952. The club has its offices not only in every state of the country, but also abroad.

Since August 5, Stenin's colleagues have been unable to reach the photographer, who had been working in eastern Ukraine. Sources reported that the photographer had been detained by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) in Zaporizhia Region in southern Ukraine, a claim later denied by Kiev.

The Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council said Wednesday the fate of the journalist is still unknown.
