In a status report posted on the European Space Agency's website, scientists said tracking stations last made contact with the GOCE, or Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer, at 5:42 p.m. GMT when it was 75 miles above Antarctica.
I was watching the display readings on the foxnews link for realtime data, and there was no indication that it had flamed out at 5:45 pm. At 6:44 pm the data stopped, and the satellite was east of Baja heading towards California. Lots of jets were seen overhead going south at 6:45 pm.
Does anyone really expect to be told anything but a fish story by the PTB?
If it went down near the South Pole, it did so where the atmosphere is the thinnest due to Earth's equatorial bulge. I would expect it to crash after crossing the Equator, where the atmosphere is thickest.
Groan.
