I believe you guys posted a previous article about this event two months back. Given the growing evidence of recently increasing fireballs, maybe another possible connection has now been made.
I happen to live in the middle of this area and I doubt it was because of the small fishermen or oil exploration (more like, there is none here so I don't know where that theory came from). And trying to connect this mass event directly to warmer water off Peru is a stretch, just look at a map and the distance between our area and southern Peru.
Don't recall hearing any booms or flashes around that time though ...
