All plastics in contact with food (and flora/fauna) have the nasty habit of releasing thier plastomers over time. The longer your food or drink stays in contact with the plastic, the higher the contamination. We never had this plastomer contamination problem when glass or pottery was used. Plastic is cheaper in the short run, but exacts a heavy price down the road.
Best if used by, as currently invoked on products, is highly misleading.
