A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.
I reported it yesterday morning. I had seen the report in the French news the day before already. [Link]

I've found pumice Pumice on Florida Beaches.
Having surfed here most of my once young but now older life - from here, it still appears better than the alternative - I have always been a beach comber.
One does not find "rocks" of much consequence in Florida. (We do have coquina, which consists of shells solidified into shelves by lime/calcite etc.) and lots of sand. We certainly do not have naturally occurring volcanic rocks (at least not yet, heh heh) such as pumice, (which is lava which has solidified while still frothy - capturing the bubbles and which therefore is lighter than salt water and can float long distances.)
I've found various bits of pumice over the years, most of which I presumed to have come from places like Montserrat. However, this article's quote: "emissions of sulphur, pumice stone and magma" makes me wonder if perhaps they've drifted from farther away, such as, say, the Canary Islands. (I'm confident that a geologist or test could probably determine the source . . .) For what it's worth, which is admittedly not much.
