Search underway for missing trawler
A search is underway off the west coast for a missing trawler with three men on board.

The search will resume at about 8.30am in the morning for a 46-foot timber frame trawler missing off the west coast with three men on board.

They are believed to be the Irish owner of the vessel and two Polish crewmen.

They left Killybegs on Wednesday after replenishing supplies and were bound for Rossaveal in Co Galway where the owner had been fishing for some years.

All Coastguard units from Killybegs to Galway will be involved in the search along with the Coastguard helicopter from Sligo and the Casa fixed-wing aircraft from Baldonnell which searched along the coast this afternoon.

The search began this afternoon after a report was made to Malin Head Coastguard that nothing had been heard from the crew since they left Killybegs where they had pulled in to replenish supplies.

A communications search failed to track down the boat and a check of main harbours where they might have pulled in to shelter also turned up nothing.

It is understood weather conditions at sea were good on Wednesday and Thursday although it became windy on Thursday night.
