A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.

Few people ever stop to consider that America was under nuclear attack for almost fifty years. The cold war tests of various nuclear weapons proved one thing to the priesthood - nuclear war is quite survivable. But then one only has to visit Hiroshima or Nagasaki to understand that reality. I was once amazed to learn that around half the scientist working on the Manhattan project theorized the fission reaction would spiral out of control and result in the incineration of earth’s atmosphere. When the Trinity test was ready for firing, Truman had only been in office about three moths and hadn’t even been briefed on the project let alone the test. This means that Oppenheimer had to go to someone with the theoretical possibility that the fission reaction would be uncontrollable. Knowing the status of Truman, it certainly wasn’t the president who called that shot. So who was it that met with the Manhattan project managers and said, “Proceed with the test, we’ve decided to play god and roll the dice – we think it’s worth it.”
The concept of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) can now be understood to be the terroristic scam it actually was; after all, while the government banged the drums of fear over the “Communist threat” they made sure the Soviet Union had plenty to eat. The American government certainly could not continue to justify the horrendous cost of weapons and technical development without the darkness created by the terrorizing shadow of a communist bogyman. For almost fifty years we believed the only thing saving us from the commie hiding under our bed with his nuclear hammer was Strategic Air Command’s red white and blue blankie of “professional peace keeping.’ But the only thing that was ever truly assured in war was mutually assured profit, gained all around by the members of the economic priesthood who consider themselves God incarnate. They profit while we die; a clever plan n’est-ce pas?
