A video capturing a tornado-like cloud over Letterkenny has amassed nearly 20,000 views online.
Donegal Weather Channel posted the video - which was captured by Seamus Price - of the dark column-shaped cloud on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today (July 16).
Although the strangely shaped cloud looks like a tornado, it is actually a funnel cloud.
According to the Met Office, a funnel cloud only becomes a tornado when it reaches the earth's surface, or if it reaches a body of water it becomes a 'waterspout'.
The funnel cloud is formed when the wind draws in cloud droplets, making a region of intense low pressure visible.
