Rain, hailstorms hit crops in 5 districts of Pakistan

Farmers in the plains of about five districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suffered heavy losses where rain and hailstorm wreaked havoc and caused damage to standing crops.

The rain that started late Tuesday night caused damage to houses and destroyed standing crops on a vast swathe of land in the low-lying areas and plains of the Peshawar valley.

The sporadic hailstorm that hit scattered areas of Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda and Nowshera damaged the ripe crop of wheat in these districts.

The rain and sporadic hail in the last three days, accompanied by strong winds, flattened the wheat crop in these areas causing huger losses to the farmers.

Comment: It's a similar situation in the Lamjung district of Nepal, where:
The hailstones that hit Madhyanepal Municipality ward no. 5, 6 and 7, completely damaged fruits, vegetables and maize crops, a local resident Ramchandra Paudel said.

The hailstorm that lasted for about half an hour also affected some parts of Kaski district, according to Yubaraj Ghimire, a secondary school teacher in ward no. 7.

Likewise, Ishaneshwar Campus Chief Ramchandra Ghimire of ward no. 6 said the loss incurred in the hailstorm of enormous magnitude was yet to be worked out.

Six people, including 5 children, were killed when lightning struck a truck they had taken shelter in during a downpour in Barangay Manlocajoc in Sipalay City on Wednesday, April 18.

Police said 17 others were injured by the lightning strike.

Killed were Seminion siblings Charlyn, 12; Rose Ann, 12; Arbiel, 10; and May-An, 9.

Also killed were Mery Tejoc, 35; and Mariel Montesino, 12.

Hello, Monday! A 3.8 magnitude quake jolted the South Bay this morning, in an area notorious for seismic restlessness, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Around 9:40 a.m., just after San Jose residents experienced hail, torrential rain and thunderous dark clouds, the earth beneath them suddenly shifted. The 3.9 quake was centered about nine miles northeast of downtown San Jose, in the Alum Rock region. Tremors were felt in Milpitas, Fremont and Santa Clara, the USGS reported. Office towers shook in downtown San Jose.

"It was snowing and hailing, with thunder, then there was an earthquake. It felt like a big jerk, not rolling," said Angel Barlow, park services attendant at Joseph D. Grant County Park, in the hills east of San Jose. "It was a landslide of weather!"'

Comment: The writer attempts to normalise the events of the day, but then goes on to state that there have been a series of quakes recently, one of them was above average in strength. And it is being recorded by mainstream US media outlets all over the country that this years winter has been unusually brutal dragging long into Spring.

It really is obvious when you take into account other unusual events around the world, but so many supposed journalists fail to connect the dots, or even remember what happened yesterday. Records fell as an April snowstorm blanketed the Upper Midwest.

The National Weather Service says the 14.9 inches (37.8 centimeters) at Minneapolis airport from Friday through Sunday set a record for the largest April snowstorm ever there. It's also the snowiest April on record in the Twin Cities. And it's the snowiest start to a calendar year there, with 70.3 inches (178.6 centimeters) since Jan. 1.

Extreme weather hit northern parts of Algeria on April 14, 2018 bringing destructive flash floods, accumulated hail and a large tornado in Batna Province reported 3bmeteo.

Residents of Algiers were braced for flooding as more than double the rainfall the Algerian capital receives during all of April was expected to pour down last weekend. Rainfall of 25-50 mm (1-2 inches) was reported across north-central Algeria through Saturday afternoon according to AccuWeather.

Unusual weather is becoming more common in Algeria. In February Ain Sefra was covered in snow for the second time this year. Following a 37-year spell of no snow which ended in December 2016, the desert town in the country's northwest, has seen snow no less than four times.

Hailstones of the size of cricket balls accompanied by heavy rain and thunder damaged hundreds of Assam-type houses at Shangpung, Nangbah and the adjoining areas in West Jaintia Hills on Sunday afternoon.

Around seven hundred houses were damaged in Shangpung alone.

Sources informed that the incident occurred around 2 pm. Rain accompanied by small hailstones also affected the Seng Khihlang Lympung at Sabahmuswang, Thadlaskein as most of the faithful had to take shelter either under a tree or inside their vehicle.

The storms have left many without a roof over their heads and destroyed crops that were ready for harvest.

Hailstorms and strong winds hit Vietnam's northern mountainous region on Saturday evening, damaging houses and destroying crops.

In the northeastern province of Bac Kan, authorities said that over 1,000 houses had been damaged in an hour-long hailstorm that bombarded three districts with hailstones of up to three centimeters (1.2 inches) in diameter, the size of a grape, according to local media.
