New Zealand - Tornado hits Kapiti Coast

A tornado has hit just north of Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast, North of Wellington.

Trees have fallen across roads and onto houses, power lines are down and a car has been blown off the road.

A person had to be rescued from their house amidst the storm this afternoon, after a tree fell on it.

Emergency services rushed the person to hospital with moderate injury levels.

US: 2.6 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Northwestern New Hampshire

Residents along the Connecticut and Ammonoosuc Rivers say they felt their homes shake after an earthquake just after 5 p.m., centered near Woodsville.

The New England Seismic Network at the Weston Observatory of Boston College reports quake measured 2.6 at 5:09 p.m. It was located about 4 miles south of Woodsville.

The social media site Facebook rocked with residents from Woodsville through Bath, Landaff and Lisbon reporting that they felt their houses shake for several seconds and that they could hear a loud bang. Some said they thought there had been an explosion nearby.

Sheila Brill of Woodsville, not far from the epicenter, said she was opening a door and heard a loud bang and then house shook.

"I thought at first my furnace had malfunctioned," she said. "I didn't know whether to stay inside or go outside, so I stayed inside just long enough to pour a glass of wine, which I took outside."

Emergency dispatchers at the Grafton County Sheriff's Department said there have been no reports of injury or damage.

According to British academics, Ireland and the UK should brace themselves for severe winters for the coming years, as solar activity is low. Last winter, the coldest in over 45 years, gave Ireland a taste of what's to come.

A United Kingdom-based forecaster Exacta Weather has issued a severe winter weather warning for 2011 - 2012. James Madden, from Exacta, said they have been correct over the last two years. This year they predict record breaking snowfall and freezing temperatures once again.

Madden said that as well as the lower solar activity, the dust and ash particles released by the recent volcanic eruptions in Iceland and Chile would also contribute to cooling down of global temperatures. He said, "Converted sulfur dioxide emissions from volcanic eruptions can also cause sunlight reflection in the atmosphere."


Comment: Not to mention other contributing factors, like comet dust.

Comet dust is electrically-charged and is causing the earth's rotation to slow marginally. The slowing of the rotation is reducing the magnetic field, opening earth to more dangerous cosmic radiation and stimulating more volcanism. The volcanism under the sea is heating the sea water which is heating the lower atmosphere and loading it with moisture.

The moisture hits the cooler upper atmosphere and contributes to a deadly mix that inevitably leads to an Ice Age, preceded for a short period by a rapid increase of greenhouse gases and "hot pockets" in the lower atmosphere, heavy rains, hail, snow, and floods.

Who would possibly have thought it? The latest news is that the world may be threatened by a sharp drop in temperatures, possibly so severe that it could herald a new mini ice age.

And one reason being put forward for this is that all the pollution being chucked out by thousands of coal-fired power stations may be blocking the sun's heat from the Earth.

Dr Robert Kaufman of Boston University blamed China this week. 'During the Chinese economic expansion there was a huge increase in sulphur emissions,' he said. And this was the cause of global cooling.

Edmonton- Several tornadoes swept through southern Alberta Thursday, causing significant damage from Sundre to Red Deer.

A tornado warning was in effect for the area from just after 5 p.m. until around 9:15 p.m. when the main storm began to dissipate over Red Deer.

It was still a tornado as it moved towards Red Deer, but it dissipated quickly over the area," said Stuart McKay with Alberta Environment. "There were several fairly thin tornadoes, but we have received reports of damage, including significant wind and hail damage across the area.

Georgia, US: Residents Report Mysterious Loud Noise and Ground Vibrations

Gainesville - Hall County sheriff's deputies have been patrolling the northeast Georgia county after several people reported hearing a mysterious loud noise.

Several residents called 911 to report hearing a loud noise and feeling the ground vibrate between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursday.

Hall County Maj. Jeff Strickland tells The Times of Gainesville that most reports were from the area of Browns Bridge and McEver Roads.

Lt. Col. James Wilson, a spokesman for Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, said the cause was probably not an aircraft coming to or from the base. He said its flight schedule does not indicate any aircraft would have been passing through the area then.

Base officials say they've received calls from local law enforcement agencies, and are still looking into the matter.

There have been, by best count, five mass extinctions in known geological history. A mass extinction is a global event in which species of many types, plant and animal, marine and terrestrial, die out in a relatively short period of geological time. Among the suspected causes are huge volcanic eruptions and impacts of asteroids. Either of these can produce worldwide darkening from dust that shuts out the sun.

Comment: While human activities are having a definite negative global impact, the next extinction event is more likely to come from a swarm of comets.

Italy: Eighty Evacuated as Landslides Hit Picturesque Lake Como

Como - Firemen evacuated 80 residents late Thursday after after a series of landslides hit Italy's picturesque northern Lake Como, where movie star George Clooney has a holiday villa. The cause of the landslides was not immediately clear.

The residents were removed by boat after roads were blocked by no less than seven landslides. The biggest occurred in the Brienno area of the lake, where passengers inside a bus and a car escaped unharmed after a landslide hit their vehicles causing them to veer off the road.

An ancient Roman bridge and an abandoned house were reduced to rubble by the landslides and another dwelling and several vehicles were reported to have been damaged.

Authorities closed a local highway in both directions after the landslides, causing tailbacks over 10 kilometres long.

Denver - A fast moving storm has dumped heavy rain in the Denver area, causing minor street flooding and trapping some people in their cars in high water.

Denver fire officials tell KUSA-TV that some people were rescued from submerged cars in north Denver Thursday afternoon. Tornado sirens went off, but it wasn't clear if a funnel cloud was spotted. The National Weather Service said up to 2 inches fell in less than an hour in the northeast Denver area.

South of Denver, lightning knocked out power for about an hour to 240 utility customers in Colorado Springs. The Gazette reports lightning also ignited a small fire at a house in Fountain in El Paso County.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Heavy rains were also reported in southern Colorado.

Two days after an epic dust storm, the air over metro Phoenix still hadn't cleared Thursday, but the problem was as much moisture as it was dust.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality said lingering humidity contributed to the hazy conditions evident most of the day.
