Germany: Nationwide fraud scheme in naturalization language tests uncovered, Iraqi ringleader arrested

Foreigners paid up to €6,000 to have people take language tests in their name so they could obtain a language proficiency certificate to gain German citizenship.

Authorities in Germany have uncovered a sophisticated fraud network that allegedly deployed paid operatives to take language and naturalization exams on behalf of migrants, with the fraud taking place on a nationwide scale.

The investigation, centered in Nuremberg, suggests a coordinated effort to bypass residency and citizenship requirements. Notably, potential applicants for citizenship must display a basic understanding of the German language.

Prosecutors say the network functioned by providing substitute test-takers who possessed a high command of the German language. According to investigators, candidates used forged identification documents that displayed the substitute's photo but contained the personal data of the actual applicant, according to Welt.

How thousands of randos like me landed in the Epstein Files

File document Epstein
© Beata Zawrzel/ZUMAPRESS/IMAGO/Capital Pictures/NewscomEpstein Files
To make sense of the Justice Department's latest documents, you have to understand what they actually are.

My name is in the Epstein files. How could that be? When the FBI received its first tip about the businessman molesting teenage girls, I hadn't even been born yet. The first time I heard the name "Jeffrey Epstein" was as a confused college student in 2015, watching feminist classmates protest a talk by Epstein's defense lawyer.

But search my name in the Justice Department's Epstein Library, and there it is, linked to a PDF file. Did I travel back in time? Was I hypnotized to forget my involvement in the most infamous sex abuse scandal in modern times? Do I happen to have an evil twin?

The less scintillating explanation: The FBI was reading my articles. What caught their eye wasn't even Reason's coverage of the Epstein case, to which I extensively contributed. Instead, one of my articles about the feds surveilling a science fiction author in the 1980s ended up in an FBI compilation of news coverage about the bureau. That compilation also includes an article about Epstein, so it ended up in the case files, which the Justice Department released last week under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

'Put a stop to immigration from Stone Age cultures' - New data shows foreign women commit domestic violence at a higher rate than Swiss men

The right says migration is to blame, while the left blames socioeconomic factors.

New statistical data has highlighted the prevalence of domestic violence across different population groups in Switzerland, sparking a political debate over its root causes. SVP National Councillor Pascal Schmid argues that the figures identify this primarily as a migration problem, noting that even foreign women are accused of these offenses more frequently than Swiss men.

Schmid requested data from the Federal Council, which provided an analysis of domestic violence frequency broken down by gender and nationality. The results show that for every 10,000 foreign men in the permanent resident population, 33.3 were accused of domestic violence in 2024, compared to 12.6 for Swiss men. For women, the rate was 13.2 for foreign women and 4.4 for Swiss women.

The data shows that foreign women are accused of domestic violence at slightly higher rates than Swiss men, however, foreign men clearly dominate in this category of crime overall, according to Blick.

Whoopsies? EPA to repeal finding that greenhouse gases warm planet and threaten health

The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday plans to repeal the legal framework that underpins its power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

"President Trump will be joined by Administrator Lee Zeldin to formalize the rescission of the 2009 Obama-era endangerment finding," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a briefing on Tuesday. "This will be the largest deregulatory action in American history, and it will save the American people $1.3 trillion in crushing regulations."

Known as the endangerment finding, the EPA's 2009 decision says that greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane are heating the Earth and that warming threatens public health and welfare. It therefore functions, under the Clean Air Act, as the lynchpin for rules that set emissions standards for cars and trucks and require fossil fuel companies to report their emissions, among others.

Comment: And just like that, decades of climate-derangement tyranny that crippled swathes of industries will (hopefully) vanish.

Canada's Horrifying Plan to Subject Babies to Medical Assistance in Dying

Sometimes it takes an outsider to see what's really going on inside your own home. That was certainly the case with the September 2025 issue of The Atlantic. The American magazine's take on Canada's experience with Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) caused deep consternation among MAID advocates across the country and horrified a great many other Canadians with its clear-eyed and entirely factual discussion of the policy's many contentious aspects.

Despite its provocative title - Canada is Killing Itself - the story doesn't read as a hit job. TheAtlantic staffer Elaina Plott Calabro didn't even interview or cite any MAID-critical doctors, legal scholars or journalists. Instead, her reporting focused on several high-profile, active MAID practitioners, including doctors Ellen Wiebe, who has facilitated the deaths of more than 430 patients; and Stephanie Green, co-founder and president of the Canadian Association of MAID Assessors and Providers (CAMAP), who has overseen another 300 or so deaths. Plott Calabro simply presented the facts and let the policy's biggest boosters speak for themselves.

In one longish sentence towards the end of her 11,000-word essay, Plott Calabro accurately pointed out that the Quebec College of Physicians (CMQ) has raised the idea of extending current MAID practices to cover infants under one-year old in cases of "severe deformities". Legalizing euthanasia for babies, she further noted, would put Canada in the same category as Nazi Germany, which "did so in 1939." At which point everybody lost their minds. And with good reason.

Kurt Cobain's death was 'homicide': Shocking new forensic investigation questions suicide ruling

Kurt Cobain
Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain
His death shocked fans and sent ripples through the music world, but decades later, Kurt Cobain's final moments are under renewed scrutiny.

The Nirvana lead singer died on April 5, 1994, at age 27, from a self-inflicted shotgun wound at his Seattle home.

At the time, the King County Medical Examiner ruled his death a suicide by a Remington Model 11 20-gauge shotgun.

Now, an unofficial private sector team of forensic scientists has put fresh eyes on Cobain's autopsy and crime scene materials, bringing in Brian Burnett, a specialist who previously worked on cases involving overdoses followed by gunshot trauma.

Best of the Web: Another trans shooter: 8 killed in Canada school shooting, including members of alleged suspect's family

Comment: Asylums, we need to reopen asylums. Not ENCOURAGE free liberal expression of mental illness...

A total of eight people were killed -- most of them at a school -- and more than two dozen were wounded, after a shooter opened fire on Tuesday in a small community in Canada's British Columbia. Officials had earlier said nine people were killed before revising the death toll.

The suspected shooter -- identified as 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar -- is dead from what is believed to be a self-inflicted injury, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The suspect did not currently have any firearms registered to her, according to the RCMP.

There was a documented history of police visits to the family residence over several years, with the most recent visit to the home in the spring of 2025. That visit was related to "concerns regarding mental health" and "self-harm" with respect to the suspect, British Columbia Royal Canadian Mounted Police Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald said, during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Predictable: German Oil Refinery Sounds Alarm Over U.S. Sanctions Risk

Oil refinery PCK
Germany's uneasy energy truce with Washington is starting to fray, and the pressure point is a single refinery that keeps Berlin moving.

Managers at the PCK Schwedt refinery, majority-owned by Russia's Rosneft (54.17%), have privately warned the German government that U.S. sanctions are already choking day-to-day operations and could threaten fuel supplies for Berlin and eastern Germany. In a January letter to economy and energy minister Katherina Reiche, refinery management made what they described as an urgent appeal to resolve the standoff before things get worse.

Schwedt is not some marginal asset. It supplies fuel to roughly nine out of ten cars in Berlin, serves the capital's airport, feeds Brandenburg's fuel network, and provides key inputs to Germany's chemical industry. When something goes wrong there, it shows up quickly and loudly.

Comment: Will the ideologically driven anti-fossil fuel lobby celebrate if Berlin and eastern Germany goes dark and will the rest of Germany celebrate it?

Comment: Lavrov correctly said the other day that the US wants to control global energy supply routes. The corrupt stooges in power in the EU, whose main allegiance has been to the US and Big Capital has helped create US dominance over energy supplies. At least in the EU.

Those stooges cheered when the Nord stream pipeline was blown up, they screamed for more sanctions on Russian energy and celebrated as they put a ban on any Russian energy from next year. It of course made them totally dependent on the US for energy and extremely vulnerable. They have no cards anymore as they threw away the few they had.

Then again if you elect and accept clowns as leaders, then it is not a big surprise if you find yourself in a circus.

The daughter of Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson was stabbed to death in a botched murder-suicide over the weekend — leading her father to abruptly suspend his 2026 campaign.

Hallie Marie Tobler, 22, was discovered dead with multiple stab wounds inside her locked apartment in St. Cloud after cops responded to a medical emergency Saturday evening, according to the St. Cloud Police Department.

Hallie Tobler was found stabbed to death in her St. Cloud home Saturday, as her husband, Dylan, was found with what cops believed to be self-inflicted stab wounds. Facebook/Julie Johnson

Tobler's husband, 23-year-old Dylan Michael Tobler, was also critically injured inside the home with what investigators believed to be self-inflicted stab wounds, police said.

Dylan, who is now in stable condition, has been taken into police custody and is expected to be hit with homicide charges in connection with Hallie's death following his release from the hospital, cops added.

Best of the Web: Noam Chomsky, Jeffrey Epstein and the Politics of Betrayal

I don't expect much from politicians, corporate tycoons, the presidents of prestigious universities, billionaire philanthropists, celebrities, royalty or oligarchs. They live in narcissistic and hedonistic bubbles that cater to their self-worship and moral depravity. But I do expect a lot from intellectuals such as Noam Chomsky. The explanation by his wife Valéria - Noam suffered a severe stroke in June 2023 and is incapacitated - of their relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is filled with the fatuous excuses used by all those who have been outed in the Epstein emails and documents. According to Valéria, she and Noam were "overly trusting." This led to "poor judgment." She writes that she and Noam were ensnared by dinners with luminaries at Epstein's mansion, flights on his private jet nicknamed the Lolita Express, a literary reference to the sexual exploitation of girls Noam would have recognized, financial assistance, trips to Epstein's ranch and the use of one of Epstein's apartments in New York. Like everyone else outed in the Epstein files she and Noam "never witnessed any inappropriate behavior from Epstein or others."

Comment: Norman Finklestein is the exemplar of the appropriate response. Kudos to him. Moral clarity is vanishingly rare these days.
