Trump to freeze out UK PM

Keir Starmer is "irrelevant" and "not a priority," according to sources in the US president-elect's inner circle.

Incoming US President Donald Trump could sideline British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, placing him "at the back of the queue" of world leaders invited to Washington, The Mail on Sunday has reported, citing anonymous sources. The claim follows accusations from Trump's team of Labour Party meddling in the US presidential elections.

Trump's advisers are considering measures to snub Starmer, including rejecting Labour grandee Lord Mandelson's candidacy as UK ambassador to Washington due to his perceived links to China, according to newspaper's sources. Starmer himself will "have to eat humble pie" to secure a meeting at the White House, the newspaper added.

Some of Trump's allies reportedly view Nigel Farage as a potential successor to Starmer, with the newspaper describing the move as "revenge" for Labour's actions. Farage is expected to attend Trump's inauguration on Monday, along with former British prime ministers, Liz Truss and Boris Johnson.

During the 2024 US presidential election, Labour's director of operations, Sofia Patel, called on party staffers to campaign for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in key swing states. Reports suggest that nearly 100 Labour staff canvased for the democrat in the US. In response, Trump's allies have filed a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission, alleging foreign interference.

On the eve of Trump, Iran and Russia launch historical deal

In a detailed strategic partnership agreement signed last week in Moscow, Eurasian powers Russia and Iran issued a challenge to the US-led global order and placed its incoming new president on notice.

Timing is everything in geopolitics. This past Friday in Moscow, only three days before the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in Washington, top BRICS member leaders Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, detailed in 47 articles, twice as many as in the recent Russian-North Korean deal.

This strategic partnership is now set in stone just as the - unpayable - humongous debt of the US government reaches an unprecedented $36.1 trillion, equivalent to $106.4k per American, and just as the US share of the global economy falls below 15 percent for the first time, based on World Bank/IMF figures.

In sharp contrast, the Russia-Iran strategic partnership aims to solidify even more the interlocking drive of crucial multilateral organizations driven to organize the new multimodal world: BRICS+, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Eurasia Economic Union (EAEU).

Call it a landmark moment in the long, ongoing Eurasia integration process. Or, as the Global Majority largely interprets it, a direct, sovereign challenge to the dying, western-imposed "rules-based international order."

The wide-ranging strategic Tehran-Moscow partnership boosts collaboration in the security and defense realms, and places particular emphasis on the smooth development of the International North-South Transportation Corridor (INSTC), a trans-Eurasia axis uniting Russia, Iran, and India, solidifying Iran as a key transit hub for Russian gas and goods sold to several Afro-Eurasia partners.

Best of the Web: 'I Believe In The Rule Of Law, But...' - Biden Pardons Fauci, Schiff, Cheney, Milley, & Family Members For Crimes Against America

President Joe Biden on Monday pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, retired Gen. Mark Milley and members of the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, using the extraordinary powers of his office in his final hours to guard against potential "revenge" by the incoming Trump administration.

The decision by Biden comes after Donald Trump warned of an enemies list filled with those who have crossed him politically or sought to hold him accountable for his attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss and his role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump has selected Cabinet nominees who backed his election lies and who have pledged to punish those involved in efforts to investigate him.

"The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense," Biden said in a statement. "Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment to our country."

The pardons, announced with just hours left in his presidency, have been the subject of heated debate for months at the highest levels of the White House. It's customary for a president to grant clemency at the end of his term, but those acts of mercy are usually offered to Americans who have been convicted of crimes. Biden has used the power in the broadest and most untested way possible: to pardon those who have not even been investigated yet. The decision lays the groundwork for an even more expansive use of pardons by Trump and future presidents.

Comment: Why the last-minute pardons if Covid-19 wasn't an engineered US biological weapon, if Milley didn't organize the January 6th coup to prevent Trump exercising his authority to 'block the steal', and if the J6 Committee didn't slap a pseudo-legal seal on it?

He also pardoned some of his immediate family, except his wife...

Israel lost the war in Gaza from every perspective

burnflag

Regardless of the success of the ceasefire, the Israeli side is the defeated one.

After more than a year of bloody fighting in the Gaza Strip, both sides reached a ceasefire agreement. Hamas and Israel reportedly agreed to halt hostilities from January on, implementing a multiple step "pacification" plan to end the war. The agreement came after several bilateral talks mediated by Qatar. The final terms of the deal were highly unfavorable to Israel, which led to harsh criticism from the Zionist press and internal opposition, who described it as a "surrender."

As a result of local political pressure, on January 16, Benjamin Netanyahu announced his interest in delaying the signing of the agreement due to unfounded accusations of "violations" allegedly on the part of Hamas. Additionally, new Israeli airstrikes occurred in Gaza on the same day, killing dozens of people. However, only a few hours later, reports emerged that the agreement had been signed in Doha.

It is still too early to say what the final outcome of this agreement will be. The fact that both sides agreed to temporarily stop hostilities does not mean the end of the conflict. For the Palestinians, the true war will only end when Israel withdraws from Palestine. For Zionists, the end depends on the success of the ethnic cleansing plan in Gaza and the West Bank. However, the halting of bombings and killings is a significant political victory for Palestinian Resistance, especially considering the favorable terms for Hamas.

Comment: A grand spin on the curse of politics.

Biden feared 'radical' Ukrainians would murder him in Kiev

Outgoing US President Joe Biden feared being assassinated by Ukrainian radicals during a visit to Kiev in 2023, he has revealed. Biden made the remark in an interview with MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell that came out on Friday.

Biden made an unannounced trip to Kiev in February 2023, a year after the conflict with Russia escalated. As was revealed later, the visit had been secretly planned over several months by a tight circle of Biden's key aides, with input from the Pentagon, State Department, and intelligence agencies.

In his interview, Biden claimed he had been warned about the possibility of an assassination attempt during the trip. However, he noted that the threat did not come from Moscow, but from "radical elements within Ukraine," possibly collaborating with the Russian government.
"Everybody kind of [advised me not to go] for security reasons... But I didn't think Putin would dare to eliminate the American president.

"I was worried, concerned about what a radical element within Ukraine that was under the control or working with the Russians might try to do."
He noted that this was the reason behind the secrecy surrounding the trip.

Russia and Iran seal partnership treaty days before Trump takes office

Russia and Iran's leaders will reportedly discuss the development of transit corridors for trade and energy negotiations

Two of America's adversaries are solidifying their ties just days before President-elect Trump makes his historic return to the Oval Office. On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian are meeting in Moscow to sign a partnership treaty.

Pezeshkian, who won the presidency in Iran's July runoff election, is set to engage in talks with Putin and participate in the partnership pact-signing during his first trip to Moscow as president.

"Iran is an important partner for us with which we are developing multifaceted co-operation," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told press, according to a Reuters report.

Comment: First Post summarizes what is known about the agreement:
1. Security and defence cooperation

The treaty commits Russia and Iran to bolster their collaboration in security and defence.

Both nations will participate in joint military exercises, develop military-technical cooperation, and coordinate closely on global and regional security matters.

2. Mutual assistance against security threats

Russia and Iran agreed to counter shared military threats and pledged not to assist any aggressor targeting the other. Disputes will be resolved based on the UN Charter and international law.

3. Commitment to territorial integrity

The two sides vowed not to allow their territories to be used to support separatist movements or activities threatening the other's stability. Their intelligence and security services will share information to address common threats.

4. Economic collaboration on energy

The treaty promotes deeper cooperation between Russian and Iranian energy companies. It encourages investments in joint projects to develop oil and gas fields, seeking to enhance the energy capabilities of both nations.

5. Joint efforts in nuclear energy

Long-term projects in peaceful nuclear energy are a cornerstone of the agreement. These include collaborations on nuclear power station construction, which both nations see as a step toward energy independence.

6. New payment systems and financial integration

The treaty seeks to reduce reliance on third-country systems by developing a modern payment mechanism for transactions in national currencies. It also calls for direct interbank cooperation and the promotion of domestic financial products.

7. No mutual defence pact or weapon exchange clause

Although the agreement strengthens military ties, it stops short of creating a mutual defence pact, unlike the recent deal between Russia and North Korea.

Additionally, it does not explicitly reference weapon exchanges, which have been a contentious issue for Western nations imposing sanctions on both countries.
Point 5 is especially important.

It's certain that Russia is not in favor of Iran developing a large military nuclear program, and has made that a condition of assistance in modernizing their existing civilian nuclear energy facilities. The agreement also moves forward the integration of Eurasia by providing easier financial flows and unblockable transport corridors for trade, including building out rail links between the two countries

The West continues to sink into irrelevance.

Question

Is it a real ceasefire or only a scam?

TrumpWitkoff
© ankaramasasi.com.trUS President-elect Donald Trump • Steve Witkoff • 14 January 2025
What concessions did Steve Witkoff offer to Netanyahu?

The negotiations in Doha involving the United States, Israel, Hamas, Egypt and Qatar remind me of Frank Sinatra's query "Is it an earthquake or only a shock?, is it a good turtle soup or only a mock?" Given the history of the various Middle Eastern peace proposals of one kind or another that have briefly raised their heads only to die ingloriously, it would perhaps be wise to consider the latest Israel-Gaza ceasefire, originally due to start on Sunday, to be, like Sinatra's soup, a work in progress. And maybe not even really in progress due to likely hidden agendas and understandings that might run counter to what is being put down on paper. I am particularly thinking of possible commitments to Israel by the United States that will give Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu options that will enable him to resume hostilities by citing Hamas violations of details in the ceasefire terms, whether they have actually occurred or not. That was how the game was recently played with respect to Lebanon and Syria where Israel manipulated the situation to its own advantage, presumably with the full connivance of President Joe Biden and his band of cutthroats.

Comment: Trust not. The ceasefire appears to be no more than window dressing and a trap. Let Israel prove it otherwise.

Gaza truce signed despite last-minute issues - Al Arabiya

Final amendments were made after the deal between Hamas and Israel almost collapsed, sources told the channel.

Israel and Hamas have finalized and signed a ceasefire agreement to end 15 months of conflict in Gaza, Al Arabiya wrote on Thursday, citing sources. The deal, brokered by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, includes a 42-day truce and a prisoner exchange.

Earlier on Thursday, Israel delayed a cabinet vote on the ceasefire deal, blaming Hamas for reneging on parts of the agreement. The militant group has rejected the claims.

According to Al Arabiya, the Israeli delegation left the Qatari capital Doha "after overcoming the differences regarding the agreement," noting that the agreement "almost collapsed" had it not been for the mediators.

It was agreed that Israel would reduce its raids on Gaza starting Friday evening, sources told the channel. Another dispute solved was Hamas' demands regarding the names of senior Palestinian prisoners to be released from Israeli jails in the second phase of the deal.

Comment: The Ceasefire Agreement: Having taken years to achieve with hours to go, Israel conducts a massive killing spree. Some of Blinken's so called 'loose ends and last minute issues'?

Confronting China, winding down Ukraine: Rubio outlines priorities of Trump White House

The US president-elect's nominee to serve as Secretary of State delivered some home truths to the assembled public representatives on Wednesday in the Senate, advocating a bold shift away from Biden administration's foreign policy.

In his confirmation hearing before the Foreign Relations Committee, Marco Rubio laid out the incoming administration's foreign policy agenda. Rubio emphasized a sharp pivot toward confronting China, curtailing US involvement in Ukraine, and reprioritizing America's national interests.

Rubio, a Republican senator from Florida, opened his remarks by framing the challenges the US faces today as a continuation of the post-World War II struggle to create a stable global order. However, he criticized past bipartisan efforts, stating, "The postwar global order is not just obsolete; it is now a weapon being used against us."

Comment: Global order is, in fact, wobbling out of orbit threatening to take a chunk of humanity with it.
