Widespread flooding and landslides across Europe, Asia, and South America, alongside record snowfalls and deadly avalanches in Japan and the Alps, marked this month. Volcanic eruptions occurred at Mount Semeru in Indonesia and Kanlaon in the Philippines, while a powerful cyclone struck Madagascar. Multiple meteor fireball sightings were reported globally, and severe storms caused power outages and disruptions in several regions.

Early in the month, solar activity included multiple X-class flares that triggered geomagnetic storms and auroras visible in parts of the U.S. and Europe.

Heavy rains, floods, and landslides caused fatalities and infrastructure damage in numerous countries:
  • France: Exceptional storm flooded streets in Antibes on February 4; record flooding across the country on February 16; severe flooding in the south, and Storm Nils on February 12 left 850,000 homes without power.
  • Colombia: Downpours and floods affected dozens of municipalities on February 4, with rainfall 64% above normal.
  • Brazil: Severe flooding in Rio de Janeiro on February 10; floods and landslides killed at least 20 on February 24.
  • Philippines: Tropical storm on February 6 left 4 dead and thousands displaced; 8 killed in landslides in Davao on February 20.
  • Indonesia: Heavy rains triggered floods and landslides on Bali on February 26; massive sinkhole formed in Central Aceh on February 16.
  • Syria: Flash floods killed at least 3 and displaced hundreds in the northwest on February 9.
  • Peru: Heavy rainfall caused extensive damage in Arequipa on February 20 and flooding in Piura on February 21.
  • Greece: Flood damage devastated farms, with severe flooding in Evros on February 25.
  • Malaysia: Flood situation remained critical in parts of Sabah, with 6,000 evacuated on February 27.
  • Australia: Sydney experienced flash flooding after 5 inches of rain in three hours on February 27; heavy rain in Central Australia closed roads and inundated stations on February 23.
Severe storms, cyclones, and tornadoes brought power outages, and destruction:
  • Madagascar: Monstrous Cyclone Gezani on February 11 left at least 31 dead.
  • Portugal: Heavy rain and strong winds caused major flooding and damage on February 12.
  • Italy: State of emergency in Calabria amid widespread flooding on February 14; severe storm and flooding in Mendoza, Argentina, on February 22.
  • U.S. East Coast: Record 3 feet of snow on February 23 led to 5,000 flights canceled and over 600,000 properties without power.
  • California: Monster storms flooded parts on February 17; heavy rain in Southern California.
  • Hawaii: Insane flooding with rainfall rates topping 8 inches per hour on February 23.
Unseasonal snow, cold, and avalanches disrupted regions and claimed lives:
  • Japan: Snow deaths rose to 35 on February 4 and 46 on February 10; six all-time cold records broken in one day.
  • French Alps: Massive storm dumped nearly 7 feet of powder in 5 days on February 14; 2 skiers killed in avalanche on Mont Blanc route on February 15; snow buried the Alps.
  • Moscow: Winter storm brought heavy snow (70% of monthly average in a day) on February 19.
  • Utah: 18 avalanches reported in 24 hours on February 19.
  • Bucharest and Romania: Heavy snowfall on February 18 disrupted transport.
  • Ordu, Türkiye: Vehicles buried under deep snow on February 28.
Seismic and geological events included sinkholes and ice cracks:
  • Giant sinkhole swallowed a road in Shanghai, China, on February 13.
  • Massive sinkhole caused by landslides formed in Central Aceh, Indonesia, on February 16.
  • Sinkhole in Omaha trapped cars and drivers on February 25.
  • An 80-mile crack split Lake Erie's ice on February 9 as the lake neared a rare milestone.
  • Moment a sinkhole in Omaha (additional reference) and vehicles buried under snow in Ordu, Türkiye, on February 28.
Volcanic activity produced ash plumes and prompted monitoring or evacuations:
  • Mount Semeru, Indonesia: Erupted on February 14.
  • Kanlaon Volcano, Philippines: Erupted on February 19 (sending a huge ash cloud into the sky) and again on February 26 (explosive eruption with ash plume 2,500 meters high).
  • Réunion's active volcano: New eruption triggered by seismic activity on February 14.
  • Ambae (Manaro Voui), Vanuatu: Increased volcanic activity was warned on February 24.
  • Mud volcano, Colombia: Erupted near homes on February 25, prompting evacuations.
Other notable events included a fin whale found dead on an Oregon beach on February 7, over 10,000 dead seabirds washing up on coasts of the UK, France, Spain, and Portugal on February 18, a dead whale in Newport Beach, California, on February 19, a massive locust swarm in Western Sahara and Canary Islands on February 24, and Canada seeing its first European robin on February 10.
