When looking at the night sky in winter, whether it's the stars or the Aurora Borealis, it's an additional treat to see a meteor.

A meteor was caught on camera this month streaking across the sky in Southcentral Alaska.

Victoria Pennick says the meteor was so bright it triggered the motion sensor on her security camera. She says she has a "couple of security cameras pointed to the sky recording at all times, and this fireball was captured on my east facing aurora camera, from my home in east Anchorage." The timestamp from the video shows the date as February 21st at 2:28 am.

Charles Sather happened to be taking video of the northern lights when the meteor did a fly-by.

The video shows a glow of green, and suddenly, a meteor's bright light can be seen in the center of the image.

Sather said he saw the meteor from Eagle River on Sunday.

Anyone who sees a fireball, or meteor, can report it to the American Meteor Society.

The group says one of its goals is to encourage and promote research activities of both amateur and professional astronomers who are directly interested in meteoric astronomy.
