PIT BULL ATTACK
A man died Tuesday following a dog attack in Caseyville, according to police.

The incident involved three pitbulls, Caseyville Police Chief Woodrow Hall said.

Kent P. Recklein, 67, a resident of Caseyville, was pronounced deceased at the scene at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday, St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said. Police responded to a call reporting the attack at approximately 2 p.m., Hall said.

Hall said the department is still investigating the incident, so they do not know the exact details of the attack. He declined to share a specific location of the attack, but said the three dogs were taken by St. Clair County Animal Control.

No charges have been filed, and it's unclear at this time if there will be, Hall said.

An obituary prepared by Kassly-Meredith Funeral Home in Collinsville said Recklein had three children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. It described him as a car and motorcycle enthusiast whose favorite place was a garage.

"But more than machines," it said, "Kent loved his family. When he wasn't in the garage, he was at home -- laughing around the dinner table, offering a helping hand, or simply enjoying the company of those closest to him. He was the kind of man who showed his love through action, always read to lend support, crack a joke, or be there when it mattered most."

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a funeral service to follow at 8 p.m.
