A writer for Alex Jones' right-wing conspiracy website Infowars was killed near his Austin home late Sunday, Jones announced on a Monday broadcast.

Jones said writer Jamie White, 36, was "brutally murdered" outside of a southeast Austin apartment complex Sunday night. White was shot and killed in the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lived in the 2300 block of Douglas Street, the Austin Police Department confirmed Tuesday.

Jones, during a Monday broadcast said:
"We sent some people over this morning when he didn't answer the phone, because he was always here early, loves to work, loves to fight tyranny, loves to promote freedom. When they got to the apartment complex, there was yellow tape everywhere and blood all over the parking lot."
Detectives believe the gunmen were burglarizing White's car when he interrupted them. The suspects fled the scene and no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday morning.

Jones said an officer at the apartment complex confirmed to fellow Infowars writers that White died at the hospital just after midnight Monday.

During his broadcast, Jones in part blamed White's death on budget cuts to the Austin Police Department as the camera panned to a five-year-old article by the Texas Tribune, which reported in 2020 that the Austin City Council voted to cut the police department's budget by $150 million and reallocated funds to areas like violence prevention, food access and abortion access programs.

Austin City Council approved the police department's largest budget allotment ever in 2023, CBS Austin reported at the time, as well as a new 2024 contract with the Austin Police Association that funds police pay increases of nearly 30% over five years, Community Impact reported.

Jones also called out decisions by Travis County District Attorney José P. Garza:
"President Trump needs to point his finger at the Austin scumbag DA and say 'You, you little monster, you are responsible José Garza just as much as the person or people that murdered our reporter'."
In a statement to the Chronicle, the Travis County District Attorney's Office took issue with Jones's comments and said it would work to hold those who killed White responsible.
"Our hearts go out to the family of Jamie White. It is shameful, but not surprising, that Alex Jones is trying to exploit the victim's death for political gain. However, we will not let Jones distract us from our work in seeking justice for Mr. White and supporting the Austin Police Department in its investigation."
