Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn't fit in with the core belief.

In the text you indicated "He didn't get stupid", but just prior sentence said something to the effect of "sharpened his positions in contrast" - so as the reader the final sentence has uncertainty as to what attribute is applicable - does it not Ned?

Today, I read that China is advancing a newer model that outstrips its own DeepSeek. This is just the usual crap we get form parties trying to stampeded opinion for their own profit.
