The victim, Pari, the daughter of Awadhesh Gangawar, a resident of Bandia village, was attacked by a pack of around 15 to 20 dogs late on Tuesday evening.
Girl dragged around 100 metres by dogs
Pari was playing outside the house, while her elder siblings were inside when she was attacked by the stray dogs.
"The dogs dragged the victim for around 100 meters and mauled her badly," a police official said.
Pari was rescued by a youth who rushed to her aid, hearing her cry.
The youth also suffered dog bites while trying to save the girl from the pack of strays.
Had over 200 dog bites
Pari who was badly injured in the attack was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead.
"The family members of the victim rushed her to hospitals where doctors declared her dead. There were more than 200 marks of dog bite on the body of Pari," the police said.
Inspector CB Ganj Ashok Kumar Kamboj said that the matter was being investigated.
Stray dogs attack boy in Lucknow
On Tuesday, a similar incident was also reported from Lucknow, where a 13-year-old boy was left injured in an attack by stray dogs.
The incident took place in Jankipuram Srishti Apartments, an LDA high-rise building.
"The pack of three-four dogs suddenly attacked Raj Aryan when he was playing in the building lawn. He sustained injuries in his legs," the boy's mother said.
Fifth case in two months
According to residents, this is the fifth such case in the same building within just two months.
"Due to multiple dog bites, the residents of the building have now started going out with sticks or in groups. These attacks are often ignored by concerned authorities until a big incident takes place," Vivek Sharma, an RWA member said.
Chief Veterinary Officer Abhinav Verma said that most of the areas near Srishti Apartment are high rises.
"Dogs are not being fed enough. It may be one of the reasons making them aggressive. A majority of dogs are yet to be sterilised but we have dispatched a vehicle to capture them," he said.
