Operating paper plants may become unprofitable if they are forced to produce at reduced capacity because of gas shortages, the publication cites Jürgen Schaller, Chairman of the Board of the Bavarian Paper Associations, as warning. Producing paper requires a lot of water, electricity and gas, Schaller explained, adding that the technology is tried and tested and cannot be changed quickly.
Shaller told Zeit Online:
"Many employees in my company are already very worried. I can't blame them. Because if we can only produce 50 or 60 percent, the operation is not worthwhile for us. To be honest, I worry too."Germany and the EU as a whole have recently seen a reduction in natural gas supplies from Russia, which led to numerous warnings of possible industrial shutdowns. The Nord Stream 1 pipeline is currently operating at 20% capacity due to technical issues with turbines at the Portovaya compressor station. Gazprom is unable to use another transit route, via Ukraine, to full capacity because, according to the Russian energy giant, Ukraine's gas transport network has been rejecting its transit applications.

Paper production, including "cheap" toilet paper (low quality compared to e.g. printer paper), requires large machinery and a huge amount of energy. There was a paper mill in the village I originally came from, and my dad happened to be the lead service engineer for that machinery. During Eastern Bloc times, the factory was supplied by the main grid.
Came "capitalism" and pseudo-private energy suppliers, they raised rates to prohibitive levels, because they did not want to invest in a proper grid for industrial customers. Thus the company build it's own 4MW (megawatt) powerstation, which my dad then operated for most of it's existence.
And guess what - it was operated by gas, delivered from Russia ...
It's as if humanity is stuck in some loop that's about to go full circle again.
Hemp could save the day. Where's my hemp TP?
The thought that the Chinks have mauled my TP before it hits my arse is neither comforting or pleasing
Sometimes I wish the big solar flare would hit to put globalists back in their place. Maximizing profits via outsourcing is the biggest threat to any sovereign nation's security.
China has to align itself with new countries to maintain its market position and dominance.
The last factor is out of the Chinese government's control, the weather, it is and will continue to destroy China's infrastructure and this alone will destroy this mighty empire.
And if you've followed zerohedge, China has been strengthening it's position and collaboration with new partners for a couple of decades, most notably, Africa, which the West is none to please with.
I will NOT decry the efforts that local populations put in place so as to possibly address a dire situation, yet to me it has unhealthy undertones of false environmental narratives put in place so as if to suggest there's a solution?
Yup Africa is on every economies radar, a new landscape in which to screw the locals, pollute their environment, make a fast buck and do a runner.
Oh, there was a guy in Texas who has regreened several acres of his own land and restored the water there too using the same methods.
LINK. Hmm, such a lovie chasing the Carbon neutral nonsense dream and lapping up all the political back slapping.
I'm no lover of this abolish carbon, nitrogen and methane nonsense.
As for Australia, 2023 will bring about changes to their atmosphere that will clear demonstrate that such nonsense has nothing to do with regards to precipitable performance.
Does your bidet do hot water? So pleasant on me bum.
its what you get for being a nazi supplier in the first place!!
