Temperatures plunged down to -57.5 °C in Delyankir (Oykmyakonski District, Sakha Republic) in far eastern Russia last night. This part of Russia is the one of the coldest places on Earth and the coldest inhabited area - the (fairly) nearby Oymyakon holds the official lowest recorded temperature in the northern hemisphere: -67.7 °C on February 6, 1933.
Meanwhile parts of Australia have been undergoing a scorching heat wave. Yesterday temperatures peaked at a blistering 48.3 °C at Tibooburra Airport (NSW), while a number of stations recorded peak temperatures above 45 °C. The official highest temperature in Australia recorded so far was 50.7 °C in Oodnadatta on January 2, 1960. The record for the highest minimum (night) temperature was broken last night: Noona (NSW) recorded a minimum temperature of 35.9 °C, as reported by the Bureau of Meteorology, New South Wales.

a few times during the past few years when going out for a smoke, I brought a thermometer with me and noticed on average a good 12C hotter in the sun, as for the shady area, it is usually 2-3 degrees more than reported by the Bureau Of Meteorology...
On the other side of the planet, as I understand, it gets much MUCH colder!! but so does it here too in winter, where 10-12 years ago I could think a winter colder than average with 10-15C while last winter was close to 0C and even negative temps in some areas...
Also the temps are not unusual for Australia in summer and are pretty standard.
Bom also got caught last year being deceitful when it was discovered it had used electronic temp devices that deliberately limited cool readings.
Former prime minister Tony Abbott wanted a official inquiry into BOM over its lies and false data manipulation.
They got rid of this man because he believed global warming agenda to be socialism in disguise.
