russian woman
Quora can be an great resource for good information from experts.

We think one important reason that these Quora folks didn't mention is that Russian women have not been psychologically bent by the last 60 years of liberal mass consumerism and gender tinkering. Because of this they are more feminine, more like women one sees in prewar movies, more like how Western women used to be before cultural marxism wrecked them.

We are sure the RI commenters community has a lot to say on this subject.

Why do you think Russian women are so darn amazing?

Good question comrade! Thank you for asking it!

The answer is: natural selection.

Here's why:

The USSR entered WWII after Hitler attacked it. The country was unprepared for a war, in part due to Stalin's purges of the top military brass and a weak border. As we know, the Soviets lost a lot of territory, but they eventually started pushing the Germans back to Eastern Europe by 1944 and to Berlin by 1945. There was virtually no military assistance from the other allies (with the exception of Lend-Lease) as the British and Americans only opened a Western front in June 1944. This occurred when the Soviets were practically done with eliminating Germans from Soviet Territory and advancing into Eastern Europe. As a result, the main burden of the fighting in Europe rested with the Soviets.

Consequently, the Soviets suffered horrific casualties. By a 2015 article published in Russia Insider, it is estimated that 23.8 million Soviets have died during WWII as a direct consequence of the war and Nazi occupation [In WWII the USSR Suffered Some 25.3 Million Dead]. Of course, most of these were men. Thus, there was a horrific loss of the male population with the women population not suffering to the same extent.

This created a skewed sex ratio. As explained by a 2015 article published in Fact Tank, there was just 76.6 men per 100 women in Russia in 1950 [Why the former USSR has far fewer men than women]. There were less men to go around. Since polygamy was obviously not a big thing in European countries, it meant that if all approximately 77 men married a woman, there would be approximately 23 women left childless.

Another factor that has led to a smaller number of men during the post-war years is traditional Russian alcoholism. Russians are famous for their drinking habits, and alcohol has been a major killer of men in Russia (as explained by a 2014 study published in The Lancet, a medical journal - Alcohol and mortality in Russia: prospective observational study of 151 000 adults). This led to even more men dying relative to women as more men tend to be alcoholics than women.

I have now established that there was a shortage of men and a relatively large number of women during the post-war years. Of course since there was a shortage of men, the men got to pick and choose among the women, and the most beautiful women were quickly taken. This of course, resulted in their children having some of their "beautiful mother's" genes and physically attractive features were passed on to the next generation.

The intense competition among the Russian women to get a mate was exacerbated by the fact that there was a closed border, so no foreign men could take the remaining women.

Therefore, those women who were less attractive were screwed and they did not have a mate. Looks do play a major role in the selection of a future mate.

The 'more beautiful' women reproduced. The less 'beautiful women' did not.

Sheer Darwinism.

The old saying that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" could not be more true. I've travelled in Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe during my days as a single man and have encountered many beautiful women from Russia. I've also encountered many whom I wouldn't consider beautiful, or even attractive.

So, in truth, Russian women, as a population are not more or less beautiful than the women anywhere else.

Even though physical appearance perception differs based on the time and region, we can say that a common perception has formed nowadays thanks to the constantly developing communication tools and media etc. Given that our evaluation was conducted based on this common perception, here's my theory about the formation period of the genetic features of Russian women whose beauty are considered as above the world standards.

The population of the Soviet Union was 168 million when the 2nd World War broke out. We can assume that 84 million of this population was male. During this war, Soviet Union lost 23 million, which is the highest number. Casualty at this rate was equal to the 13% of the population at that time. This rate had never been seen in any other countries before the Second World War during the previous century.

As you might have guessed, men between the ages of 18-30 form the vast majority of these casualties. Based on the population/age group statistics in the world, when we consider that the Soviet Union's male population within this age group was around 15 million, we can say that there was almost no single and fertile men left in this country after the war. As a man usually marries one woman and has kids, it is very easy to estimate that there was a substantial increase in the number of marriable women for each man.

From bacteria to humans, the common instinct for all creatures is to reproduce. This instinct forms the mate selection behavior in men. Men want to reproduce with beautiful women as beauty indicates health. Health is an indicator that the woman is fertile. A fertile woman means the continuity of the lineage. In this case, we can say that the few celibate men in the Soviet Union after the Second World War, only reproduced with the beautiful women. As a consequence, with the generation born between 1945-50 the genes related to beauty such as proper nose structure, tall height and legs etc. was carried over to the next generations and unattractive features went extinct in those years with the women who couldn't marry.

As a consequence, in modern societies each generation is born more beautiful than the previous but the catastrophes such as war during which men loss is quite high, might speed up this process.
