An argument following a graduation ceremony turned deadly as one woman died after being shot multiple times and at least two people were injured in a parking lot near Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, WXIA-TV reported.

What happened?

The Clayton County Fire Department confirmed there are three victims, two with gunshot wounds, who were transported to area hospitals, the TV station reported.

A woman in her 40s was shot three times in the chest and was taken to Southern Regional hospital where she was pronounced dead. A 21-year-old victim was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the leg. A third victim, a pregnant woman, was pushed to the ground and was taken to Piedmont Henry Hospital.

"We didn't know what to do," witness Latrallo Presley told WXIA. "We just ran... running from the parking lot, running from everywhere. People were stumbling over each other. I was shook."

Another woman told the TV station she was worried for her grandson because she hadn't been able to get a hold of him.

Multiple gunshots were fired, but it wasn't clear how many, police said.

The shooting happened in an overflow parking lot for graduation ceremony, which was held at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center across the street from the high school, according to reports.

It happened just hours after a mass killing Friday at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, left nine students and one teacher dead. That school is located south of Houston, in the southeastern section of the state.

Are there any suspects?

Clayton County Police Chief Thomas Treywick told the TV station he was heartbroken when the call about Mt. Zion High School came in.

"It was not pleasant," Treywick said. "I was emotional because the last thing you want to do is have a situation at a graduation that results in anyone being injured."

Police are still searching piecing together information and attempting to narrow down suspects, according to the report.

The Clayton County school district released a statement that the district is "saddened that such an incident has occurred that overshadows such a positive ceremony involving an exceptional group of graduating seniors."
