2 killed in 40-vehicle pileup after tractor-trailer plunges off highway, icy weather conditions (VIDEOS, PHOTOS)

Two people have been killed and at least 11 injured in a major traffic incident on a highway in South Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday morning.

"We have approximately about a 40-car pileup on the northbound side of I-95 near the Washington Boulevard exit," Baltimore City Fire Chief Roman Clark told reporters, adding "there was a tractor-trailer that actually went over the embankment."

Clark advised drivers stranded in their cars due to the pileup to remain inside their vehicles and to try to stay warm.

Reuters reports that three of those injured are in serious condition.

Dramatic footage from the scene apparently captured the moment the tractor-trailer crashed, bursting into flames as it rolled over the road barrier.

The road has been closed and detours are in place, as emergency crews are dealing with the accident.

State traffic services warned drivers against venturing out in adverse icy weather conditions early on Saturday, recommending that travel be delayed until temperatures rise.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh has issued a statement expressing her sympathy for those affected by the crash and asking residents to "delay travel if possible."

"Today's icy road conditions remind us all that it is imperative to exercise extreme caution due to severe weather," she warned.

Damn it.

The biggest stupidity in this world is to get killed in a car crash nowadays. A few tips :

# 1 : I would suggest, first of all to learn how cars work, at least the basics. Quit these automatic gearboxes would be a good place to start. With manual gearboxes you have better control over the car's horsepower. That gas pedal-brake pedal driving is for monkeys.

# 2 : Always, always, wear your seat belt along with everyone else in the car. It saved my life 4 times
and I was driving alone.

# 3 : Proper maintenance. It's a machine for Christ's sake like we are. It needs to be maintained like we have to.

# 4 : Grip. Tire , suspension system. If they are not in good condition along with your braking system you are dead. Remember : Correct tire pressure, cold disc brakes , warm tires , change of springs and shocks every 40-50 thousand Km's.

# 5 : Pay attention to these road signs damn it. They are there for a reason.

# 6 : Weather conditions : Even when it rains, I'm stressed because I have to be more careful than usual. Snow, is a difficulty level above and if there's ice one the road forget it , you have no traction.
You need special attachments to your tires, like the old chain system, but there are better and more improved systems nowadays.

# 7 : If you engage in a car crash don't feel guilty. It happens to every driver. Usually there's a PTSD afterwards but it goes away.

# 8 : If you are in the driver's seat and you are responsible for killing somebody else you should be charged with 1st degree murder. It shows both incompetence and irresponsibility.

# 9 : Attitude : The road is not a racing driver circuit, don't behave like an a***e. Even racing drivers have been killed.

# 10 : Thank God for the Internet we can do lots of stuff from our house, and in the future with the
help of quantum computers even more, although the latter is not as easy as it sounds.

# 11 : Sitting behind the wheel means that you are sane. If you are intoxicated for any reason (alcohol, drugs, lack of sleep, emotional distress) but you have to move, give the wheel to somebody else or take a cab.

# 12 : Finally : Road assistance. Anything can happen and most likely it will. Pay for it, it's worth
the money. Mixed insurance for crash repairs, whether it's your fault or not. It also pays off. Protect your car, especially if it's expensive. Sun, rain, hail destroy the materials it's made of. Theft : Car alarm, mechanical theft protector and anti-theft insurance.

A good car nowadays costs a fortune because it took us almost a century to get them to the level of quality they are. Have a little respect.

I like to think of self as a good driver and I've got the interesting stories to prove it. I follow EVERY ONE of your common sense recommendations - which, in their not being followed, show's americans' basic lack of it.

I must add: DO NOT BE AFRAID TO USE YOUR HORN. In the last three years in Orlando, I've prevented OTHER cars from getting in wrecks (the last three weeks ago) because driver a (ahead of me at red lighjt and on cell p;hone) sees green and goes off on her left turn, NOT seeing IDIOT who IS OBVIOUSLY going to run the red light. My laying on the horn woke them each / both up, and they still missed by 5 feet, max. (Red light runner had slowed to 45 by then.)

Another way to put it. Defensive driving.
