Mr Marroquin, who changed his name from Juan Pablo Escobar , revealed his father always planned to shoot himself in the head to avoid being captured.
He claimed it was also to stop his family from being taken hostages by enemies — including the 'vigilante' group Los Pepes - People Persecuted by Pablo Escobar . The architect said: "I have the absolute certainty that my father committed suicide. Coroners who did the autopsy were threatened and forced to change the official report. My father always told me the shot that would take his life would stick."
Mr Marroquin was just 17 when his dad died in December 1993 — after more than a year on the run. He revealed to The Sun Online he spoke to the drug dealer 10 minutes before he died.
Recalling their last conversation, he said the last words his dad spoke to him were "I'll call you right back". But following Escobar's death on a rooftop in Medellin, Columbia, his son said the multi-billion dollar cocaine empire "sank like the Titanic".
Mr Marroquin's claims come in the wake of the release of his new book Pablo Escobar , In Fraganti, translated as Red Handed. It highlights the drug "network of corruption" that stretched from Colombia to the US.
Escobar became one of the richest men in the world by importing as much as £30 billion worth of drugs into the US.
Now really!, lets have some truth to the issue here, this man was a psychopath, a known lord, books and movies have been produced about how the atrocities he committed. He would sell his own mother let alone his family for a chance at the continued life he had chosen for himself. Now he is some sort of savior.
What about the millions that have died because of his drug dealings.
Unfortunately, his son is living in an illusion IMO
In a life of crime you die by the life of crime and death is one of those consequences.
