Brisbane mother starves baby
© The Courier MailThe baby, who cannot be identified, was so malnourished she needed resuscitation “on multiple occasions” in hospital and had even been put on a “palliative care standing” as she was considered unlikely to survive.
A mother-of-four accused of starving her baby and fundraising online for donations for the child's recovery has faced court.

The 27-year-old woman had raised almost $16,000 from more than 100 donors.

The money was raised through a donation site that stated: "Every single doctor and specialist ran various tests to find out what's wrong, but still to this day no one has found an answer."

That is except for the police, who did find an answer to the mystery illness, charging the mother with torture, fraud and grievous bodily harm after the infant had repeatedly presented to the Lady Cilento Hospital.

"Hope this helps guys... such a strong family," one man wrote on the donation site.

"Mate only known you a very short time but me and my family's thoughts and prayers go out to you and yours," another said.

Court documents revealed that the child's condition deteriorated so significantly that it nearly claimed her life.

"The child required resuscitation on multiple occasions while at hospital," an affidavit read. "(There) was an expectation she was unlikely to survive."

It was revealed in court the mother had an eating disorder, had been in an abusive relationship and was receiving mental health treatment.

The woman was released on bail on Friday to care for her other three children.
