Press TV has interviewed James Jatras, a former US Senate foreign policy analyst from Washington, to discuss US hints at possible terrorist attacks against Russian cities.

Jatras said Friday night that the threat described by Russia as an invitation to terrorist attacks are "irresponsible and incredibly dangerous," which could push the Russians and the Americans into a direct conflict.

On Thursday, US State Department spokesman John Kirby warned Russia of "more body bags" and "attacks on Russian cities" if the Russians continued cooperation with the Syrian government in attacking militants.

The US is risking a "direct confrontation" with Russia, which could easily get out of hand and end up with a "direct clash" between the two powers, Jatras told Press TV's "The Debate" program.

The Americans, he said, tried to avoid a confrontation with Russia during the Cold War, knowing that the Russians are the only power who could destroy the US.

Kirby's remark "has to be understood as a threat with these reports that the United States and its allies might start supplying anti-aircraft weapons and more sophisticated weapons to what, let's be honest, are terrorist groups in Syria."

Contrary to what the Americans are thinking about their fight against terrorism, the US is supporting Ahrar al-Sham and so-called Free Idlib Army, who are receiving Grad missiles to attack pro-government populated areas in Syria, Jatras said.

He said a ceasefire agreement in Syria fell apart because there is no "so-called moderate" opposition apart from al-Qaeda and Daesh terrorist groups.

"What the Obama administration is really doing here is defending al-Qaeda and using people in Aleppo as human shields to protect al-Qaeda."

A ceasefire, brokered by the US and Russia in Syria, expired on September 19 after being in place for only a week.

Aleppo has been divided between government forces in the west and the militants in the east since 2012.

The American officials use humanitarian situation in Aleppo to put pressure on Russia and Syria to stop their fighting against foreign-backed militants.
