More than 50 Russia warships and vessels prepare for exercises in Caspian Sea

More than 50 Russian warships and support vessels are preparing to begin naval exercises in the Caspian Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry's Southern Military District's press center said Monday.

"At present, the crews have begun developing and completing practical operations of preparing the ships for sail in the sea and preparing for combat operations. Over the remaining two months of the winter training period [March and April], each ship will complete a complex of ship combat operations and exercises, in which missile and artillery fire will be used against marine, coastal, and air targets," the press service said in a statement.

Comment: The coup-installed regime in Kiev has been punishing Crimea ever since they voted to join the Russian Federation last year. Food supplies halted, sanctions imposed, and more recently, violent threats made - all suggest that Kiev may have designs on taking control of Crimea back and further punishing its people for not wanting to fall under the banner of fascism. At the same time, the mobilization of Russia's navy may have as much to do with responding to NATO's encirclement of Russia as anything else. And probably more so.
