The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) responded to at least 42 calls on Sunday evening, after a huge storm hit south Canberra.

Theodore and Conder were lashed by extreme weather from about 7pm, including high winds, rain and large hail.

The ESA responded to a number of calls for help, mostly for leaking roofs and fallen trees on roads.

ACT State Emergency Service volunteer units, ACT Fire & Rescue crews and Territory and Municipal Services staff were helping residents late on Sunday.

One Canberran posted about his experience on the social networking site Twitter. ''Massive hailstorm in #Conder, #Canberra. Damage and leaks everywhere. Power out.'' Territory and Municipal Services warned residents to be careful on the roads because of fallen debris.

The Bureau of Meteorology had issued a severe storm warning for the region, but eased it later in the evening, about 8pm.
