Authorities in south Georgia say at least three people have been injured in a chemical explosion that rocked an industrial complex.

Valdosta fire officials say more than 40 firefighters responded to the blaze at the Gil Harbin Industrial Park Wednesday afternoon with help from Lowndes County sheriff's officials, Moody Air Force Base, the Georgia State Patrol and the FBI.

Police say the fire and explosions appeared to be coming from a facility that processes hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. The cause of the fire and explosion is unclear.

The Valdosta Daily Times reports the blast prompted road closures and an evacuation nearby. Authorities say three people have been hospitalized and the extent of their injuries wasn't immediately clear.
