It's all in the attitude. We call it "tone level."
The "overwhelming" and "complex" task of unfolding a large protein was so difficult to confront that the scientists felt defeated before they even started. By making it a game, this "tone sag" problem was overcome. This should serve as a lesson to the science world.
When you are up-tone you solve problems. When you are down-tone you make problems. So if you want to solve more problems, you have to go up tone!
