Facebook, known for its meteoric rise in popularity, lost 1.5 million users in Canada in May. Facebook also reported a loss of approximately 6 million users in the United States in the same month.
Overall, Facebook gained 13.9 million users in April, and 11.8 million users in May - compared to a typical month in 2010 where the company gained 20 million users per month on average.
A report published Monday morning on mashable.com says that if this slowing trend continues for two consecutive months, it could be a significant indicator for Facebook's future.
Despite the slowed growth in North America, Facebook continues to dominate the social networking world, having reached 687 million active monthly users by the beginning of June 2011. The majority of new users are from countries that are late in adopting Facebook, such as India, Brazil, and Mexico.

I felt such relief getting off facebook. It started off extremely fun especially reconnecting with some dear friends but then, came those stupid apps. Then came the strangers who met me once and then wanted to be my friend. Then, came the Christians who wrote about Jesus. Then came the Sarah Palin and Fox news cohorts, then, the narcissism .......aaaaahhhhhhh
Get me outta here. What a waste of time. I noticed that most people could not discuss anything important such as Why is out nation on prescriptions?...or why are we allowing hydrogenated oils in our foods? NO...people wanted to discuss what they had for breakfast or the wart on their toe. How many of these 600 million users are legit? How many fake people are there who are trying to sabotage others.
Yet, I did sell 4 works of art so I guess it paid to be member. What was creepy though was that I was unable to delete my account but only deactivate. The same is true for Craigslist. I can not delete my account.
There is definitely something wicked going in Cyberspace, an ill screeching unheard by the masses.
