ALEUTIANS -- A large earthquake rocked the Aleutian islands Saturday afternoon. The quake measured a magnitude 6.2, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It struck at 12:24 p.m. Its epicenter was in the ocean about 84 miles northwest of Adak, which was the nearest community, the agency said.

The location of the quake was 1,246 miles southwest of Anchorage.
