Czech television is reporting that more than 100 cars have been involved in a massive pileup on the country's major highway, which connects Prague with the eastern Czech Republic.

Czech news television CT24 says about 30 people are injured, six seriously. A total of 116 cars crashed before midday Thursday during a heavy snowstorm, the reports say.

Czech media report up to 20,000 people are stuck in the pileup and the major traffic route between the Czech capital and the second largest city of Brno, located 200 kilometers (125 miles) southeast of Prague, have been blocked for hours.

Rescue workers are using two helicopters to help.

Meteorologists have warned that more snowstorms are expected overnight.
