From a strictly subjective standpoint (personal observation in the health care field) it appears that inflammatory diseases like allergies, eczema, and asthma are epidemic, or nearly so.
A really interesting part of this article is the mention of the reduced release of cytokines. - If I recall correctly, I think cytokines released in the lungs are posited as being the mechanism for high-fatality viral diseases - like the killer flu epidemics in the past, and bird flu.
perhaps toking up might have a protective effect for a serious flu infection?
