Over the three or four days that Signs of the Times was down due to anomalous technical difficulties, the Pentagon's Central Repository of Advanced Propaganda (C.R.A.P.) thought they would avail themselves of the opportunity to sneak out a little 'war on terror' programming, undoubtedly in the fervent hope that it would pass unnoticed. Well, guess what? It didn't, and it would certainly be remiss of us to let this one slide.

Last Friday, the Iraqi puppet government announced that the new "al-Qaeda leader in Iraq" had been wounded by the Iraqi puppet police. Unfortunately, the alleged wager of holy war managed to limp away, thus ensuring his future usefulness to the US government in the continued propagation of their fantasy tale about US troops fighting a "war on Islamic terrorism".
Al-Qaida in Iraq chief wounded, officials claim

Security forces have wounded the head of al-Qaida in Iraq in a clash north of Baghdad, Iraqi government authorities said today.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that Abu Ayyub al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, had escaped after being hurt.

Security officials told Reuters that a Masri aide had been killed in the clash, when a group of militants were intercepted by Iraqi police while on their way to the town of Samarra, north of Baghdad.

The US military in Baghdad were unable to confirm the reports. An Egyptian Islamist militant, Mr Masri was a senior aide to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the al-Qaida in Iraq leader killed in a US bombing attack last June.

US Pentagon sources at the time identified Mr Masri as among the prime candidates to take over al-Qaida Iraq's operations. The US, which has put a $5m (£2.6m) bounty on his head, says he is a native Egyptian, aged about 39.
The story was given 24 hours to sink into, and leave a lasting imprint on the malleable minds of the masses before it was quietly retracted:
'No indication' al-Qaida in Iraq leader killed or wounded

16/02/2007

The US military today said it has no indication that the al Qaida in Iraq leader was killed or wounded in a raid north of Baghdad, while an Iraqi army officer said his deputy has been jailed south of Baghdad for a week.

Interior ministry spokesman, Brig Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said this morning that terror leader Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was wounded and an aide killed yesterday in a clash with Iraqi forces near Balad, north of Baghdad.

Khalaf declined to say how Iraqi forces knew al-Masri had been injured, and deputy interior minister Maj Gen Hussein Ali Kamal later said he could not confirm the information.

But spokesman Lt Col Christopher Garver said the US military had no information to corroborate the account.

"We do not believe that he was either killed or wounded last night," Garver said.
You may notice that there is no mention of the reason why US military intelligence does not believe "al-Muhajir " was either killed or wounded last Friday. Luckily for you however, you read Signs of the Times, which in this instance, can provide you with top secret inside information that you can find nowhere else.....other than the BBC and dozens of other news websites. So what exactly is the inside scoop on why "al-Qaeda leader in Iraq" "al-Muhajir" could not possibly have been killed, wounded, or even mildly perturbed by an attack on him by Iraqi puppet troops?

He's about 1,000 miles away in jail in Egypt, has been for the past 7 years, will be for the foreseeable future:
Iraq al-Qaeda chief in Egyptian Jail

BBC News

The US has publicly named Ayyub al-Masri as Zarqawi's 'heir'
A prominent Cairo lawyer says the Egyptian man identified by the US as the new al-Qaeda leader in Iraq has been in jail in Egypt for seven years.

The lawyer, Mamdouh Ismail, who has represented Egyptian Islamists for many years, says he met the man days ago in a jail on the edge of Cairo.

Sharif Haza told me that he has been in jail for many years now and that he has no relationship whatsoever with al-Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden

Following the killing of Zarqawi in Iraq last month, the US military there released the picture of an Egyptian man they said was the successor.

Maj Gen William Caldwell, the US military spokesman in Iraq, said at the time: "This is Ayyub al-Masri, probably the person who's going to be responsible for al-Qaeda in Iraq.

"Ayyub al-Masri is a senior al-Qaeda in Iraq operative. We know he is responsible for facilitating the movement of foreign fighters from Syria into Baghdad itself. We know al-Masri has been a terrorist since 1982, beginning with his involvement in the Egyptian Islamic Jihad."

Mr Ismail says that the American assertion could not possibly be true.

"There I met Sharif Haza and he laughed a lot about what is being said about him out there. [Ed: So did we]

"He told me that he has been in jail for many years now and that he has no relationship whatsoever with al-Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden"

Mr Haza has been in jail for seven years on terrorism charges, says Mr Ismail.

The question of the identity of the successor to Zarqawi took another twist a few days ago when Osama Bin Laden said in an audio message that a man by the name of Abu Hamza al-Muhajir was the new leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Mr Ismail says no-one has heard of al-Muhajir.
What does it all mean? How can the US government get their intelligence information so horribly, horribly wrong and then allow it to be spread around the globe via the news wires and into the all-too-receptive minds of the masses?

Ehh...you're missing the point. The intelligence isn't "wrong"; no one in the Pentagon or the US government or military is making any "mistakes". It's all going wonderfully, and according to a very specific plan. Just ask any American why US troops are in Iraq. Then you'll understand.
