One building and a corral burned today after dry lightning strikes ignited at least four grass fires that were nourished by strong wind gusts.
El Paso County Sheriff's Lt. Lari Sevene said authorities received at least six calls about 2 p.m. of fires in the area, roughly 15 miles east of Colorado Springs.
Sevene said deputies notified residents in a "a handful - maybe three or four" homes to evacuate or prepare to evacuate. No injuries to people or animals were reported.
Two of the fires were under control by 4 p.m. Wednesday.
As of 5:00 p.m., some 1,000 acres had been consumed by four separate fires.

A 17-year old male was struck and killed by a bolt of lightning Saturday while swimming with friends at Gouldsboro State Beach, according to state police at Swiftwater.

Two persons were killed and two others injured by lightning in Narail, C'nawabganj on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Kanika Biswas, 35, wife of Anil Biswas of Ratadanga village under Sadar upazila and Esamul Shaikh, 10, son of Salam Shaikh of Boyra village under Lohagora upazila.
The injured were Kamel Sikder, 12, and Zamela Khatun, 9, of Ratandanga village. They received first aid at local clinics.
Meanwhile, four persons including a house wife were killed by lightning in the district on Saturday afternoon.

Residents in almost 3,000 homes and businesses in Yarmouth and Lowestoft woke to find they had no electricity this morning after a lightning strike on an overhead cable.
The strike happened at 3.58am, leaving 2,766 customers unable to boil the kettle for a morning cuppa.
Power was restored to most people by 7.37am, but EDF Energy engineers are still working to reconnect the final 163 customers in Bradwell and Belton.
