A shocking video shows a huge flood tearing through a remote mountain village in Pakistan following a massive glacial burst - leaving homes submerged by water.

The clip, shot from a hillside opposite Talidas village in Ghizer, northern Pakistan, captures walls of muddy water smashing through fields and roads on Friday morning.

One house on higher ground is seen collapsing as the torrent hits.

A glacial burst is the sudden and catastrophic release of a large volume of water from a lake contained by a glacier.

The disaster began in the early hours when shepherds heard rumbling in the mountains around 2.30am and ran back to warn villagers.

The midnight alert gave families precious time to move to higher ground before the water surged into Talidas just after 6.30am.

The eyewitness - a 38-year-old man who filmed the scenes - said floodwater filled the village within minutes.

By mid-morning, people were stranded on rooftops and high ground. Volunteers carried out the first rescues, before an army helicopter lifted others to safety.

Authorities say at least 50 people were evacuated, with disaster teams later reporting around 200 moved to safe areas.

The flood cut the only main road through the valley, isolating nearby communities, and left dozens of homes ruined.

A regional minister said up to 70 houses were destroyed.

Officials said no deaths had been reported as of Friday, but warned the temporary lake and unstable slopes could trigger more flooding downstream.

A statement from Rescue 1122 said, '200 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas and have been shifted to Ghizer's Yangal and Samal areas.'

'Several people have been traumatised after [their] houses were destroyed. Medical assistance is being provided to the affected people,' it added.

In another statement the rescue service described the burst as a 'terrible incident' which has 'caused widespread disruption'.

It added: 'The Ghizer River has been completely blocked for several hours, which has increased the risks for downstream areas with a possibility of high-level flooding in the river.'

It comes after flash floods across northern Pakistan and India-controlled Kashmir killed at least 344 people in 48 hours last week, according to local authorities.

Most of the deaths, 328, were reported in the mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in northwestern Pakistan, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

Eleven more people were killed in Kashmir, while five died in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region.
