Lightning strikes claimed 31 lives across Cambodia during the first half of 2025, marking a significant 31 percent decrease from the 45 deaths recorded in the same period last year, disaster management officials reported Tuesday.

"Among the dead so far this year were 11 females and three children," Soth Kim Kolmony, spokesperson for the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), told media.

Beyond the fatalities, thunderbolts wounded 53 additional individuals and killed 71 cattle throughout the January-June timeframe this year, he confirmed.

Siem Reap, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Preah Sihanouk provinces experienced the highest concentrations of lightning strikes.
