Republican Senator Mitch McConnell suffered two falls while near the Senate chamber on Wednesday, according to reports.
The Kentucky Republican, 82, fell down a small set of stairs on as he was exiting the chamber after a confirmation vote for Housing and Urban Development Secretary nominee Scott Turner, according to Punchbowl News,
He was quickly assisted by Senators Steve Daines and Markwayne Mullin.
McConnell also fell while inside the chambers, the news outlet said, and he was later pictured being pushed around in a wheelchair.
Comment:
The reports come as concerns continue to mount about the senator's ability to serve, following several public episodes in which he has appeared to freeze for several seconds while taking questions from reporters - leading to questions about his health.
The Independent has reached out to representatives of McConnell for further information about the incident, and an update on the senator's condition.
McConnell suffered a similar incident in December sustaining minor injuries after a fall at the Capitol. He was cleared to resume work, shortly after, though was later pictured with a band-aid on his left cheek.
McConnell, the longest-serving party leader in the upper chamber's history, announced his intention to stand down from GOP party leadership in February 2024. However he has said he plans to serve out his Senate term, which ends in January 2027.
The octogenarian was away from the Senate for weeks in 2023 after tripping at a Washington dinner, resulting in a hospital stay for treatment of a concussion and minor rib fracture.
Twice later that year he famously froze up in public while speaking.

Hillary Clinton did it too, several times.
They are all so very creepy.
I think Gavin Newsome looks like George Hamilton's Dracula (Love Bites).
George Hamilton is very handsome, of course. No offense to him, but I think it's funnier to envision Gavin Newsome as that character, and I can't seem to shake it.
Surely he has a nervous assistant named Renfield, and a hot disco crush out there somewhere in the eternal city night.
Here's one I have to vent. I just got banned from Nick Fuentes' chat stream for being a racist. How about that?
They called me a Jew.
I told them incels were fags waiting to happen, and the white race needed men whose balls actually worked, and could face the challenge of marriage, and if they weren't men enough to raise children, then there would be no white race.
What kind of "racist"doesn't understand that? Fake ones, I assure you.
I got banned before I could get into white nationalists glazing a Mexican in public.
So what's the point? Just me venting 'cause I had stuff to say to that little prick, but they censured me....and I thought it was funny, you said you liked bizarre takes, and I bet nobody ever thought to expose Nick Fuentes as a fraud by presenting him with a little authentic racism. They don't actually like it...and I didn't even get started.
He wasn't pretending to be an Anglo though. It was "La Raza" to him. To him race was "sacred." That was my first lesson (worth keeping). He taught me to have respect for a people's race and culture, especially your own, because it was what God had given us. Respect God, and accept His design for you and others as a blessing,essentially....sounds like a Native American belief, frankly. Can't say I was always good at that.
I'd never be able to explain that to those guys, though. SOTT's a better place for actual contemplation...probably not a great place to troll though. I'll save that for Nick.
But looking up his wackopedia page, I spotted some huge reg flags in the first section. That sounds suspiciously like a "honey pot" a.k.a. "agent provocateur".
As a side note ...
About 10 years ago, Germany wanted to ban a "neo-Nazi party" that had taken the same line and got into several state parliaments. They started the legal procedure, only to find out the whole party leadership consisted solely of secret service (BND) agents ...
He is very informed on geopolitics, and almost a savant in that respect, but always fails the litmus tests when it comes to being an authentic person. He's either a snake or a limp dick. IDK. He is intelligent, but is he "intelligence?" It's too hard to tell, and that usually says enough.
One of the things I listen for over there and everywhere, is how many times they tell me what I should be thinking. It's often, and often verbatim. I started listening for that after I saw Tucker Carlson (on FOX) literally look into the camera and say "This is what you should be thinking about that," and then proceeded to tell me what I should think.
I was like, no MoFo. You run interesting and relevant facts my direction, and I decide what to think about them. Obviously, I can be pretty fond of my own opinions and found being told what to think very offensive.
Then I realized none of these ass-hats actually inform me of anything I didn't already know ever. All they do is tell me what to think about the things I already do know (just like the MSM), and run damage control on conservative public opinion. It's like how the only scripture you ever hear in movies and television is scripture everybody is already familiar with, like the Lord's prayer.
Rumble is not there to inform anybody. They are there to tell you what to think. Real or thought transformative information is shunned rigorously, just like everywhere else...except here, and maybe a few other spots I'm unaware of.
Who even knows who Chris Pavlovski really is? Not the internet.
He seems to exist only to incriminate conservatives and undermine the dignity of the republican party through his association, and make white nationalism literally impotent.
And I grew up in a society where the Stasi (communist varian of the Nazi GeStaPo) was omnipresent. I learned to not trust any media legalized by government to begin with.
the media had to fill in the blanks. Medical issues...A stroke?
Strange the democrats keeping these octogenarians...Nancy Pelosi they have been using this grift too long, they can't give it up.
Of course the Momento Mori... for the wonderful achievements, only to fly with the wind into a dust bowl.
A man well past his time. Sadly he will not be missed.
And, not that I like to quote that book, but this very much relates to ordinary day-to-day life : As if the Brits don't have their hands full with their own rotten government - and infirm "royals".
The funny thing is - this is an almost verbatim replay of conditions in the Eastern Bloc during the very last years. Frail and dement old men as highest representatives of the government, while the mass media sees nothing wrong, but cracks down heavy on dissenters instead.
